Shiloh, GA- Jesse Lee Ellison 67, of 224 1st Street, Shiloh, Georgia departed this life Thursday, February 26, 2015 at his residence surrounded by family and friends. Funeral services will be 11:00AM Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church 21640 GA Hwy 116, Shiloh, GA 31826 with Reverend Felix Worthen officiating according to Hill-Watson-People's Funeral Service LLC, 2919 Hamilton Road, Columbus, GA 31904. Visitation will be Monday, March 2, 2015 from 1:00PM-6:00PM at the funeral home and 9:00AM until the funeral hour Tuesday March 3, 2015 at the church. Mayor Ellison was born October 30, 1947 in Shiloh, Georgia to the late Mathis and Mary Pearl Ellison. He accepted Christ at an early age and joined Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. Jesse attended school in Harris County. He retired after 34 years with the Harris County Board of Education as Supervisor of the Department of Transportation. He served as City Councilman for 19 years before becoming the first African American Mayor of Shiloh, Georgia in 2008. He was and avid golfer. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by six siblings, Louise Lewis, Susie Mae Ellison, Annie Bell Jarret, Johnny Lee Ellison, Bobby Ellison and Jimmy Lewis Ellison. Mayor Ellison leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted wife, Shella Ann Ellison; eight daughters, Theresa(Eddie)Lindsey, Elizabeth(Anthony)Spencer, Elaine Ellison, Sarah(Anthony)Smith, Dishelia(Boris)Copeland, Rhonda(Hamp)Little, Valerie(Victor)Whitehead and Toyne(James)Carwell; three sons, Joseph(Wendy)Ellison, grandson(daddy and father)Cortney Ellison, Christopher Copeland and Marcus(Erica)Dumas. His special pet Spottie Denson-Ellison(Spot); six sisters, Annie Pearl Harris, Bernice Ellison, Jessie Mae Ellison, Jeanette Turner, Arlesa Turner and Ethel Turner; three brothers, Mathis Ellison, Bobby(Laura)Turner and Oscar Turner; twenty-nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and many dear friends.
