Columbus, GA- Julia Ann (McKinney) Rhodes, 65 of Buena Vista, GA was called home to her Lord and Savior Thursday, August 8, 2013 at St. Francis Hospital.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Richard Harden officiating. A private interment will be held at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home, 3874 Gentian Blvd., Columbus, GA.
Julia was born January 11, 1948 in Charleston, SC daughter of the late Wesley Stuart McKinney (Mac) and Lois Gibson McKinney. She was Baptist by faith attending the church wherever the family was stationed. For 20 years she was a devoted nurse working diligently, for her patients' best interest, retiring as a Surgical Nurse at Doctor's Hospital. She was well respected by her co-workers and the doctors she assisted. She started as a Homemaker and mother devoting herself to her children. A lifetime of military service beginning as a Navy brat and continuing as an Army wife of 22 years. She loved the time she spent with family and friends, the joy of giving, the traveling with her family and suffered from a wicked sense of humor that kept anyone who knew her entertained.
Survivors include her loving husband of 49 years, Joseph Rhodes, Jr. of Buena Vista, GA; daughter, Joyce Hutcheson (Anthony) of Rockport, ME; son, Joseph Stuart Rhodes (Lisa) of Buena Vista, GA; sister, Lois Marie Smith (Henry) of Columbus, GA; five grandchildren (Cameron, Hunter, Devin, Hollie and Tyler) and numerous nieces and nephews as well as her Aunt Hilda of Florence AL and dear, dear friend Helen Olive (Frank).
Many thanks from the family to the medical staff of the CCU and Emergency Room of St. Francis Hospital for the care given to Julia and the family during this difficult time. You ALL were a true blessing. A special thank you to Officer Cook, the good Samaritans' and EMT crew.

This is Harry Gibson and Julia was my cousin. My father Hubert Gibson and her mother Aunt Lois were brother and sister. I had not seen Julia for many years but I met with our cousin Steve recently and he shared some current pictures of our cousins. My condolences to her family and friends.

This is Uncle Jevie (Julian Gibson) and wife, Nancy. We were saddened to learn of your wife and mother's sudden passing. Hilda has kept us posted these past few days.
