Lin Groover Obituary

Lin Clark Groover

March 24, 1949 - November 12, 2024

Savannah, Georgia - Lin Clark Groover, born on March 24, 1949, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2024, in Savannah, Georgia. She was also affectionately known as "Linnie" by her grandchildren and many friends.

Lin is survived by her daughter, Chene Walz, son-in-law, Hayes Walz, and her adored grandchildren, Asher, Anabel, and Tallulah Walz. She is also survived by her loving brother, Clark Groover, her dear friend and caregiver, Leah Harrison, as well as her cherished friends and relatives. Lin was predeceased by her parents, Lou and Sonny Groover, her brother, Davis Groover, and her beloved grandmother, Josephine ("Chene") Key Dowdell.

A native of Columbus, Georgia, Lin attended Columbus High School and Wesleyan College. In 1971, she returned to Columbus, married Larry Aglialoro, and soon welcomed their only child. She dedicated her career to the Department of Family and Children Services (DFACS), where she passionately advocated for her clients and built lasting friendships with colleagues. Lin was an active member of The Junior League of Columbus, contributing her time to meaningful community service initiatives. After her marriage ended in 1989, Lin moved to Roswell, Georgia. She married Mark Boner and became immersed in local government, devoting many years to political endeavors and campaigning with friends and colleagues. She remained in Atlanta for some time after the conclusion of her marriage in 2003 and then relocated to Ponte Vedra, FL, and later to Sugarloaf Key in 2008, where she sought the freedom and adventure she valued. There she met friends with whom she shared her time and love of "life in the Keys". In 2021, health concerns led to a move to Savannah, Georgia, where Lin planned to relocate to spend more time with her grandchildren.

Known for her outgoing and colorful personality, Lin carried a sense of liveliness wherever she went and always had a story to tell. Laughter and sometimes hilarity followed her, whether frying a pork chop in Karo syrup in an attempt "to try cooking" or bringing a bottle of Zima she mistook for sparkling water to a work meeting. Lin enjoyed keeping in touch with her lifelong friends and being on the go, especially if that led her to a casino, beach, or favorite restaurant. In her final years at the senior living facility she called home, Lin brought her characteristic wit and energy to the residents and staff around her, along with her brand of occasional mischievousness (she may have pulled the fire alarm a time or two and tried to take over a community meeting by reviewing an unsolicited complaint list alongside a few supportive residents she had rallied for the cause; and, she most definitely told some inappropriate jokes). She lived life unapologetically on her own terms.

May memories of Lin's spirited nature and desire for adventure and fun live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her and bring comfort to all who mourn her passing.

The family would like to express deepest gratitude to all the medical providers, caregivers, and staff who gave quality care to Lin, especially: Karly Johnson (nurse, Coastal Care) for her truly exceptional care, advocacy, and compassion; Tish Williams-Stevens (Thrive on Skidaway) for her unwavering care and concern for Lin; and Leah Harrison, an extraordinary person and outstanding caregiver and advocate, in whom Lin found a soul friend and with whom Lin's family formed a lifelong bond.

A casual visitation will be held on Friday, January 10th, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at The Wynn House, located at 1240 Wynnton Road, Columbus, GA 31906.

Lin and I went to College together. Hair styles at that time mandated a very straight look. She often coerced me into 'ironing' her hair - all the while telling me what she would do to me if I burned her hair. She was great fun, contagious even. She will be missed.

Lin and I went to both high school and college together. I remember in dance classes in high school, she would get me on the back row to help her with her steps. In college, she pierced my ears in the dorm at 9:30 one night when I made a snap decision to do it. She was so much fun to be around and, although I haven´t seen her in many years, I will miss her sweet spirit. RIP, Lin

Dear Chene and Clark,
Love to you and all the family. There are many memories of Lin. It was good to have been with her at family gatherings. Her grandmother " Aunt Jo" was very dear to me as were her parents Lou and Sonny Groover. Sincere sympathy, Barbara Tyler Frickel
