Lloyd Hall Obituary

Lloyd
Hall
March 8, 1936-
August 8, 2018
Columbus, GA- Lloyd Hall left his earthly life at the age of 82 on August 7, 2018.
He was born on March 8, 1936 in Geneva County, Alabama. He married Lummie Lou Blair on August 29, 1953 in Opp, Alabama and they were married for almost 65 years. After moving to Columbus, Georgia as a teenager, he worked several jobs in the area, including as a cotton mill worker, as a police officer, and as a shoe salesman at J. C. Penney until he found his life's calling as a licensed real estate agent. He obtained his real estate license in March of 1963 and worked for Carter Realty, Town & Country Realty, Wright Realty and for Kennon, Parker, Duncan & Key for the rest of his career. He was preceded in death by his parents, Murphy Hall and Rushie Bell Free Hall of Geneva County and Columbus, and one brother, Winfred Hall of Columbus. He is survived by his wife, Lummie Hall of Columbus, and three children: Gary Lloyd (Tulan) Hall and Gregory Mark (Alicia) Hall, both of Columbus, and Reba Hall (Wendell) Barnes of Tucker, GA. He was grandfather to seven grandchildren: Ginger Lynn Klasky (Jeff) Spencer of Fortson, Lyle Lavin (Chelsey) Klasky of Columbus, Madison Gary Hall and Matthew Parker Hall of Columbus, Blair Ikeda Hall of Atlanta, Grace Devoy Hall of Columbus, and Wendell Wright (Jessica) Barnes, III (Trip) of Atlanta. He was also very proud of his five great-grandchildren: Abbey, Trey and Reed Spencer of Fortson and Cooper and Lyla Klasky of Columbus.
Lloyd was very sociable and stated he entered the real estate field so that he could become self-employed and to be able to use an avenue that would allow him to develop his income according to whatever his willingness to work was. He was very successful in this business, graduating from the Realtor's Institute, becoming President of the Columbus Board of Realtors in 1969, and becoming a Life Member of the Million Dollar Club.
Lloyd used his outgoing personality, personal drive and love of people in many ways in his community. He often volunteered as an auctioneer for many charitable organizations' fundraisers. He served for many years as the Chairman of Property Acquisition for the Chattahoochee Valley Salvation Army Board of Directors. He was an active member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, serving as past chairman of the Administrative Board for two terms and on the Property Committee. He was an active member of the Miller-Wilson Sunday School Class. He was a founding member of the Pine Eden Board, which directed the activities of a Christian retreat center in Hamilton. He was also a life member and past President of the Columbus Jaycees, who began the Miss Georgia Pageant in Columbus.
But he is probably best remembered locally as the "'Mater Man," delivering hundreds of bags of tomatoes from Slocumb, Alabama each June, often accompanied by loaves of white bread and jars of Hellman's mayonnaise, to friends and acquaintances all over the Chattahoochee Valley as a part of his "Ministry of 'Maters."
Honorary Pallbearers will be, Tommy Milligan, Bobby Clark, Rennie Bickerstaff, John Mooney, Jim McKinistry, Gerald Matthews, and Oliver Welch. Active Pallbearers will be, Jeff Spencer, Lyle Klasky, Madison Hall, Matthew Hall, Trip Barnes, and Derrick Shields.
A celebration of Lloyd's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 10, 2018 at St. Paul United Methodist Church with Rev. John Fugh officiating according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus, GA. Interment to follow in Parkhill Cemetery. Many thanks to Kindred Hospice, Susan McCaskill and the doctors and staff of John B. Amos Cancer Center. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Pine Eden Christian Retreat Center (Capital Fund), P.O. Box 708, Hamilton, GA 31811 and Salvation Army, 5201 Warm Springs Road Columbus, GA 31909.

Dear Gary and Family.....I was so saddened to hear of your Dad's passing. He was such a kind and sweet man, with such a humble spirit and a smile that could light up a room. He will be greatly missed on this earth, but having the assurance of being with him for eternity can be comforting. God bless you Gary, your precious Tulan and family as you go through these coming days. Please know that I am praying and thinking of you.

Dear Lummie--------Sallye and I are sorrowful to learn of your beloved's passing. Lloyd was my special friend, and I shall always remember that chapter in Washington when you came to visit me early in my first term. It had a wonderful jaycee flavor, and we were bonded ever after. Not only for your talent in cake making, but also for the kind personal touch which both of you had for others. We are thankful that our paths came together, and we are truly blessed with those remembrances.
Love, The Jack and Lois Brinkley family
