Columbus, Georgia - MSG (Ret) Lucky Caswell, Sr passed away quietly Thursday at St. Francis Hospital at the age of 79.
A native of Montgomery, AL and the son of the late Ned and Annabelle Gholsby Caswell, Mr. Caswell retired from the U.S. Army after over 30 years of services and also retired as a Communications Engineer from Civil Services at Ft. Benning after 15 years of service. He was the owner/operator of Mr. Lucky's Barbeque. A devout Christian, he was a member of Forrest Park Baptist Church and its Deacon and Culinary ministries. He received his bachelor's degree from Troy State University and was a member and past president of the 20/30 Club, Prince Hall Masonic Order and was inducted into the Rangers Hall of Fame. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Vicki Caswell Williams.
He is survived by a loving wife of 57 years, Mrs. Willie Ruth Sellers Caswell; one son, Lucky Caswell, Jr (Bolale); three grandchildren, Lucky III, Safaiya and Lucas Caswell; beloved children he raised, Donnell Johnson (Kenyatta), Robert Johnson and Stephanie Slaughter (Moses); one brother, Ned Caswell; one sister, Eloise Siler (James); and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives to include the Vason, Thomas, Flowers and Gholsby families.
MSG Caswell will be laid to rest with full military honors at Green Acres Cemetery on Saturday, January 14, 2023 following an Eleven O'clock AM Homegoing Celebration in the sanctuary of Forrest Park Baptist Church officiated by Pastor Donovan Coley.
