While visiting a close friend in Columbus in 2004 or so I chanced to stumble in to Mac's shop. Sawdust and wood chips on the floor, a thin coat of dust on every surface, guitars and mandolins hanging in every nook and cranny. A bearded, disheveled Mac McCormick puffing on a hand rolled cigarette as he went about his craft.... I instantly knew that I was in exactly the right place.... I purchased one of his standards that day and ordered a custom as well. I now own (6) Taylor acoustics as well as (2) Yairis and (3) McCormicks. The custom that Mac built for me is still my player and always will be. Mac was a unique man, a kind and caring artisan who was more than willing to sit and share his love of craft for as long as you were willing to stay and listen. I stayed a while..... Sometimes, if you're lucky, you meet someone that makes a lasting impression... I consider myself a lucky man... Rest in peace Mac. Hope to see you again on the other side...

I am so proud to be the owner of one of Mac's guitars.
He did repair work for me on other guitars which is how I found the shop. There was just something about the look and sound of his finely crafted acoustic guitars I felt compelled to buy one. Fine instruments hanging is his humble, dusty shop. Unusual instruments lining the racks. He is one of the most
colorful and talented people I ever met. It is apparent he loved his craft as did his wife, Ann, with her leaded glass craft.
Rest in peace and I pray we all have a
work we love like Mac did....

Mac was always there for me, whether it was a full setup or a minor tweak. He never would accept payment. He was more intersted in his craftsmanship than making money and he was a true craftsman. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him. I know I will miss him. May God be with his family.

In Loving Memory of Mac. He worked with his hands in wood just as Jesus did.
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

I will never forget how Mac would accept me and my beloved labrador,Angel, into his shop when I would visit. Even though I was a novice guitarist, Mac would always spend time time with me discussing guitars and life. Many a pleasant morning was spent listening to classical music on the radio and discovering the treasures within Mac's shop and heart. A truly great man. Ann, his precious wife, reflects his same kind spirit. I greive for her loss.

My brother, Steve Johnson, was privileged to own a Mac-made guitar. He always visited with Mac when he came to Columbus. We knew when he went to Mac's shop, Steve would be there for awhile soaking in Mac's uniqueness. Mac was a person who helped give Columbus its character. He will be missed.

Dear Anne,
We used to drive from Auburn to Columbus to have Mac change Jim's guitar strings just to have the chance to spend time with him. We will miss him, and always remember him for being a dear and genuine soul, as are you. It's hard to find words. If there is anything we can do, please don't hesitate to let us know. You can email us at [email protected]. Best of thoughts for you and your family at this time. Love, Jim King & Claudia Clark
