Martha Woolfolk Obituary

Martha Patterson Butts Woolfolk August 10, 1928 Ð August 19, 2008 COLUMBUS, GA — Martha Patterson Butts "Patsy" Woolfolk died on Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at her home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 21, 2008 at First Presbyterian Church with Reverend Charles R. Hasty, Jr. officiating according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary. A private graveside service will follow in Parkhill Cemetery. Mrs. Woolfolk was born in Columbus on August 10, 1928 the daughter of the late Ada Veasey Butts and the late Thomas Usher Butts.  She attended Columbus High School, Hollins College in Roanoke, Virginia, graduating from the University of Georgia where she was a member of the Pi Mu Sorority. Mrs. Woolfolk was a member of First Presbyterian Church.  She served as President of the Junior League of Columbus and served as Chairman of several special events for the Historic Columbus Foundation.  She was a member of the Columbus Town Committee of the National Society of Colonial Dames of America. In 1950 she married William Carter Woolfolk, Jr. They were married 25 years until his death in March 1975. Mrs. Woolfolk was preceded in death by her sister, Carolyn Butts Wickham. She is survived by her son, William Carter Woolfolk, III and his wife, Lane; her daughter, Carol Woolfolk Johnston and her husband, John; five grandchildren: Laney Woolfolk, Carter Woolfolk, Robert Woolkfolk, Martha Johnston, and Maggie Johnston;  a brother, Thomas Usher Butts, Jr. all of Columbus; a sister-in-law, Margaret Woolfolk Webb of California; and a nephew, Malon Murray Wickham of Columbus. In lieu of flowers, the family request that contributions be made to Columbus Hospice, 7020 Moon Road, Columbus, 31909 and First Presbyterian Church, 1100 First Avenue, Columbus, GA 31901 in memory of Patsy Woolfolk. I am sorry to hear of Patsy's death. Our thoughts are with the family. I spoke with Totsy earlier and she was recalling fond memories of life on 3rd avenue growing up with her cousins. Take care.
