Martin O'Hara Obituary

Dr. Martin John O'Hara III
December 28, 1942 - August 24, 2022
Columbus, Georgia - Dr. Martin John O'Hara III passed away at home in Columbus, Georgia on August 24, 2022. Martin was born December 28, 1942 in New Brunswick, NJ and is a graduate of Seton Hall University and Ross University School of Medicine.
After years as a successful executive with Revlon and Chanel, Martin answered his calling to serve others and became a physician. An anesthesiologist, Martin completed his internship at the Medical College of Georgia, his residency at Griffin Hospital in Connecticut and practiced at Columbus Regional Medical Center for many years. He is described as a "difference maker who could really get through to his patients" and noted for his gift of calming even the most fearful.
He enjoyed traveling with his medical school friends and annual vacations with his extended family. Helpful, generous and quick-witted, he was most treasured at family gatherings engaging in political banter and peppering trivia questions, hoping to challenge and educate. "Uncle Marty" to many and "Grandpa" to a select few, his beautiful blue eyes would light up when a challenging riddle was solved. He was fascinated to learn new things and was steadfast in his belief that education was the key to success. He was the epitome of "student" and promoted higher education for all family members. His presence, humor, and wisdom will be forever missed.
He is predeceased by his parents, Martin O'Hara, Jr. and Marjorie O'Hara and his son, Martin O'Hara IV.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Kacha O'Hara, his children Elizabeth DeJong (Craig) of California, Michael O'Hara (Sabine) of Germany and Sean O'Hara of Colorado, his sisters Mary Margaret Lang (Rudolph), Patricia Tranger (David), Elisabeth O'Hara (Michael Soska), Ellen Gleason, Frances Perillo (Gary), his grandchildren David, Joseph, Christopher and Megan and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at the Striffler Hamby Funeral Home on Tuesday August 30 at one o'clock with chapel service and interment service at Park Hill Cemetery to follow.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the American Humane Society in his memory.
