Columbus, GA- Michael Jay Smallwood, 59, of Columbus, GA passed away Thursday, January 24, 2013 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama.
A graveside funeral service will be conducted on Monday, January 28, 2013 at 2:30 pm EST at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery with the Bro. Jerry Speer officiating.
Mr. Smallwood was born at Ft. McClellan, AL to the late J.C. Smallwood and Helen Williams Pearson. Mr. Smallwood was a carpenter and heavy equipment operator in the construction industry for most his life.
Mr. Smallwood is survived by one son Phillip Michael Smallwood; four brothers Ron Smallwood and wife Janet of Columbus, GA, Ricky Smallwood and wife Joyce of Columbus, GA, Sam Smallwood of Greensboro, SC, and Chris Smallwood and wife Linda of Greensboro, NC; one sister Joyce Kidd and husband Bob of Columbus, GA, and many other extended family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the VA hospital in Birmingham, AL or Northside Baptist Church 959-54th Street Columbus, GA 31904.
