Oliver Matthews July 26, 1945- August 11, 2006 COLUMBUS, GA— Oliver Matthews, 61, of Columbus, GA. died Friday, August 11, 2006 at the Medical Center. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. EDT Wednesday, August 16, 2006 at St. Peter AME Church in Seale, AL. with Rev. Elijah McKissic, Pastor, officiating, Apostle Ralph Matthews, Eulogist. Burial will follow at Old St. Peter Cemetery in Seale, AL. Visitation will be from 1 until 7 p.m. EDT Tuesday, August 15, 2006, according to Battle & Battle Funeral Home. Mr. Matthews was born July 26, 1945 in Russell County, AL., son of Eunice Upshaw of Columbus, GA. and the late Fred Matthews. He was a driver for Reeves Wrecking Company, was a member of Nazareth Baptist Church in Columbus and had recently joined Words of Wisdom Christian Center of Columbus, GA. He is survived by his mother, Eunice Upshaw and stepfather, Fred Upshaw; a son, Jerome Matthews, Columbus, GA.; brothers, Robert Lee Matthews, Columbus, Ralph Matthews and wife Vilma, Columbus, Mark Upshaw and wife Debra, Conyers, GA.; sisters, Freddie Mae Scott and Shirley Phillips, both of Phenix City, AL.; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
