Richard Daniel Dickens, Sr. April 6, 1947 - July 30, 2010 FORTSON, GA — Richard Daniel "Danny" Dickens, Sr., 63, of Fortson, GA died Friday, July 30, 2010 at St. Francis Hospital. Funeral services will be held 4 p.m. today at Piney Grove Baptist Church, 20 Hwy 315, Fortson, GA 31808 with Reverend Mickey Adams officiating. A private interment will be held in Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends this afternoon from 3 to 4 p.m. at Piney Grove Baptist Church according to McMullen Funeral Home, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907. Mr. Dickens was born April 6, 1947 in Columbus, GA; son of the late Ernest C. and Janice Bland Dickens. He retired from BellSouth/AT&T in marketing. He was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and as a leader in the AWANA Children's Program. He coached youth sports at Northern Little League and Babe Ruth. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jimmy Dickens. Survivors include his wife, Vicki Johnson Dickens of Fortson, GA; daughter, Dana Dickens Schmidt (Bryan) of Atlanta, GA; son, Richard Daniel Dickens, Jr. (Wren) of Hamilton, GA; brother, Bobby Dickens (Jerri) of Cataula, GA; sister-in-law, Pam Dickens of Montgomery, AL; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mark and Marilyn Buice of Fortson, GA; mother-in-law, Nayo "Nell" Smith of Fortson, GA; and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to Piney Grove Children's Ministry c/o Piney Grove Baptist Church 20 Hwy 315 Fortson, GA 31808.
