Ruby Hall Obituary

Ruby D. Hall
September 22, 1934 - January 30, 2021
Columbus, Georgia - Mrs. Ruby D. Hall of Columbus passed on Saturday, January 30, 2021 at St. Francis Hospital. Funeral Services for Mrs. Hall will be conducted at 12:00 PM, Monday, February 8, 2021 at the Charles E. Huff's International Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Hobet Dixon will be officiating. Interment will be held in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be held from 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM on Sunday, February, 7, 2021 at the funeral home located at 927 - 5th Avenue, Columbus.
Mrs. Ruby D. Hall, formerly known as Ruby Lee Ducette, was born in Seale, Alabama and was the third of seven children of Ross Ducette and Mary-Ann Averett Ducette. Shortly after graduating from school Ruby moved to Washington, D.C. where she met and married Odie Hall Jr. During their sixteen year union they had three children: Odie, John and Regina. A longtime member of The Church of Christ she instilled that same belief system in her children. Ruby was a devoted and beloved mother, grandmother and former school teacher who spent her decades--long career teaching in Washington, D.C. at Bruce-Monroe Elementary School and Benjamin Cardozo High School. Ruby was an avid fan of The Washington Football Team formerly the Washington Redskins. She was also a passionate supporter of the city's longtime mayor, the late Marion Barry.
After more than thirty years of teaching, Ruby retired but continued to lead an active life anchored by family and a close circle of friends with whom she enjoyed sports, music and church activities. Outgoing, funny, loyal and wise, she was a trusted confidante to family members and friends, alike. Ruby loved sports, interior design, fashion, travel and she rarely missed an opportunity to attend a premiere of a movie featuring her daughter, the actress Regina Hall.
In 2014, Ruby returned home to Georgia to be closer to her sisters, Frances and Irene. While eventually beset by health challenges she remained funny, optimistic and quick-witted to the end.
She leaves to celebrate her life and legacy, her three children, Odie Hall, III, John Hall, and Regina Hall; her god-son, Walter McClain; two grandchildren, Maya and Briana; her daughter-in-law, Sharon Rogers; three siblings, Irene Ducette, Mary D. Allen and Joe Ducette and a host of nieces, nephews cousins and close friends.
