Columbus, GA- Russell Clifton Johnson, Staff Sergeant, Retired, passed away Thursday at the Veteran Administration Hospital in Tuskegee, AL. He was 78 years of age.
The son of the late Ira and Hattie Sparks Johnson, SSG Johnson was born in Gloucester, VA, and was a U. S. Army Veteran of 20 years. He also retired following 20 years as a truck driver with Schneider Trucking Company. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ira Johnson, Jr.
He leaves to cherish his memory, a beloved wife of 41 years, Mrs. Eleanor Childs Johnson; four sons, Michael McCoy, Russell Johnson, Jr., Ronald Johnson (Jackie) and James Simmons; one daughter, DuDonna Jones; five grandchildren, two great grandchildren, a brother, Benny Johnson; a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
The Homegoing Celebration for SSG Johnson will be held Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 12 noon at Gethsemane Baptist Church with Reverend Bray Streeter, pastor officiating. The interment will be Monday, January 8, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery. Visitation is Friday, 2 til 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. May god bless the family in this time of grief I served with STAFF SERGEANT JOHNSON at fort Campbell kentuckey back in 1975 always was a lot of fun to be around
