CSM/Ret. Wallace V. Colson July 28, 1927- June 19, 2005 COLUMBUS, GA— CSM (Ret) Wallace V. Colson, 77, of Columbus, GA died at Columbus Hospice House Sunday, June 19, 2005. Graveside services with military honors will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 22, 2005 at Main Post Cemetery, Ft. Benning, GA with Reverend David Howle officiating according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Macon Road. The family will receive friends this evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Mr. Colson was born July 28, 1927 in Oxbow, ME son of the late Russell Colson and Alma Mae Clifford Colson. He had retired from the U. S. Army after 30 years of service as a Command Sergeant Major. During his military career he served his country proudly in WWII, Korea and Vietnam. After retiring from the service he performed various other duties with Civil Service. Mr. Colson received the following commendations and medals, WWII Victory, Army Occupation, Driver & Mechanic Badge-W, National Defense Service (1 oak leaf cluster), Army Commendation (3 oak leaf cluster) Vietnam Service w/4 Bronze Stars, Vietnam Campaign, 3 Overseas Service Bars, Bronze Star Medal (1 oak leaf cluster) Meritorious Unit Commendation, Marksman (.45 Caliber Pistol), Vietnam Cross of Gallantry W/Palm, Sharpshooter (M-1), Expert (M-14), Expert (M-16), Expert (Carbine), Good Conduct Medal (8th award), and Legion of Merit. He was active in the community serving on the Board of TIC Credit Union for 20 years. Mr. Colson was also an active member of Edgewood Baptist Church, the VFW, DAV and a 33nd Degree Mason. Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Ruth Holloway Colson of Columbus, GA; a daughter, Darlene Colson of Columbus, GA; two sisters, Muriel ÒSisÓ Reitenga of IN and Betty Gidusko of Fern Park, FL; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
