Frederick MacAdam Obituary

NEWPORT, Rhode Island -- Known by many names - Rick, Fred, Uncle Rip, Clark, CC and probably others - Frederick William Clark MacAdam reluctantly though peacefully succumbed to pancreatic cancer January 30, 2018 at the Hope Hospice and Palliative Care Center in Providence, Rhode Island. His sister was grateful to be with him.

Rick would have been 65 the end of March. He was born in Peterborough to William (Bill) and Lois MacAdam of Francestown. He is survived by his son, Eliot M. Benoit of Canaan, New Hampshire; sister Ethel (Effie) MacStubbs of Francestown; brother Bruce MacAdam and wife Kochava Duschenes of Hartford, Vermont; niece Molly S. Cook, husband Ben and two great nephews of Francestown; nephew Robert Twigg Stubbs and two great nieces of Montpelier, Vermont; nephew Ethan H. MacAdam of Malden, Massachusetts; nephew James B. MacAdam, wife Rachael and two great nephews of Tucson, Arizona; sister-in- law Holly Hill MacAdam of York, Maine; and brother-in- law Gary Stubbs of Calais, Vermont.

Rick grew up primarily in Francestown, with some time in Andover, Massachusetts and New Canaan, Connecticut. He attended Gould Academy in Bethel, Maine, Conval High School in Peterborough, American University in Washington, D.C., and received his Bachelor of Liberal Arts degree from Harvard Extension School. He saw himself as a financial consultant and spent time in Washington and New York City, concentrating on investments. He moved to Newport, Rhode Island around 2000 and bought a boat which he lived on for several years. He had an interesting life and multiple passions - art, architecture, landscaping, skiing, riding, history, literature, and people among them. Having walked almost the entire city of Newport in his seventeen years there, Rick had garnered an extensive and colorful perspective on the area. He was tenacious to the end; he could not have lived out his life with more equanimity and style.

A Memorial Gathering will be held in Newport on his birthday and an internment of ashes in Francestown when the Earth warms.

Donations in his memory may be made to Hope Hospice and Palliative Care Rhode Island, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, Rhode Island 02904.
