George H. King

Peterborough, NH - George H. King passed away peacefully on July 23, 2025, in Spring Village at Summerhill Assisted Living in Peterborough, NH. He was under Hospice Care, in association with the dedicated care team at Spring Village at Summerhill.

Born on November 12, 1927, near Penny Hill in Wilmington, DE. George's lifelong love of science and technology began in his family's basement with a chemistry set and a crystal radio. George was a WWII and Korean Veteran, serving in the Navy from 1946-47, 1950-52, reaching the rank of Petty Officer, First Class. His work on anti-submarine detection gear would begin an extensive career in technology.

While attending the University of Delaware, George met his wife, Louise Rabbage, in Wilmington, and they were married in 1952. George enjoyed being a member of the University of Delaware Marching Band and Orchestra, gaining lifelong friendships that sustained him late into life. Graduating with a Mechanical Engineering degree, George worked on many projects over the years. In 1960, he took a position with Sanders Associates in Nashua, NH, eventually becoming a long-term resident of Hollis, NH. He attended church at Good Shepherd Episcopal in Nashua and later in life, All Saints Episcopal in Peterborough.

George had a passion for wine and the process that went into it, highlighted by the extra time spent with clients in Silicon Valley on weekend treks to Napa and Sonoma. He spent hours on end discussing the subject, even during his time at Summerhill. George's love of music was lifelong, and he was heavily involved in both the Nashua and Hollis music and theater communities. George and Louise took delight in their membership in the Nashua Actorsingers, Nashua Theater Guild, and the Nashua Symphony and Choral Society. George, having served numerous terms as President of the Nashua Symphony, was once honored to play the typewriter in Leroy Anderson's composition "The Typewriter". In Hollis, he served the community by playing in the Town Band and as a member of the Volunteer Fire Department.

After retirement, George enjoyed teaching at the RISE program at Rivier University. Serving as both a Music Appreciation lecturer and Audio-Visual technician. His involvement in course development and scheduling fueled his retirement with enjoyment and purpose.

George was predeceased by his wife Louise, brother John, and sisters Elizabeth and Margery. He is survived by sons David, William, and Donald, as well as a daughter, Susan, 10 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews and their children.
