Lawrence Dalley Obituary

Lawrence Cutting (Kip) Dalley 111

Francestown, NH - Lawrence Cutting Dalley III ("Kip"), age 70, passed away peacefully at home in Francestown, New Hampshire, on June 27th, 2025.

He was born on August 28, 1954, in Washington, D.C., to Lawrence Cutting Dalley Jr. and Agnes Dunn. Kip attended Potomac School,

South Kent School, and later graduated from Nasson College.

Kip began his career working in circulation for the Anchorage Daily News in Anchorage, Alaska. He was one of many instrumental in the rise of the paper as the dominant paper for the state, Kip married his college sweetheart, Kimberlee R. Place in 1981. Later, seeking to raise their children near their families and close to Martha's Vineyard, Kip moved to Kim's childhood home of Francestown, New Hampshire, and purchased the Francestown Village Store, which he ran for ten years.

He spent his childhood summers on Martha's Vineyard, where he developed a lifelong love for fishing, tennis, and sailing. His connection to the island, it's waters, and traditions became an integral part of who he was.

He had a deep love of the outdoors, including hiking, camping, birding, and countless hours boating on the Lunasea. Above all, he loved hockey, playing semi-pro hockey for the Wolverines in Alaska, then later organizing a team to compete in the World Pond Hockey Championships in Canada.

He was an all-around great outdoorsman and conservationist, deeply committed to preserving the natural world he cherished.

More than anything, Kip loved being a father. He was playful, loving, and thoughtful, and brought joy, wisdom, and warmth to every moment

he spent with his family.

Kip lived with Lewy Body Dementia, an illness he managed for 16 years with grace, optimism, courage, and humor - a reflection of the strength that defined him.

He is survived by Kim, his wife of 44 years, their son, Tyler Adams Dalley, of Maui, Hawaii, and his partner, Yoanna O'Brien and their daughter, Sarah Dalley Sordillo, of Francestown, New Hampshire, and her husband, Matthew Sordillo

He also leaves behind three cherished grandchildren: Grace Evelyn Sordillo, Emmett Matthew Sordillo, and Raya Lawrence Dalley.

He is also survived by his brother, Richard Dalley, and his wife, Allison; his sister, Sarah Shannon, and her husband, Mike, and their children, Addie and Sam.

Kip is further survived by the family of his late sister, Laura Tobin: her husband, Jim Tobin, and their children, Jamie and Lydia.

There will be a Celebration of Kip's life for family and friends on July 26th at their home in Francestown.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Brain Foundation, 201 Chicago Avenue, Minneapolis, MN 55415-1126, or online at www.AmericanBrainFoundation.org,

to support finding a cure for brain diseases such as Lewy Body Dementia and Multiple Sclerosis.

Kim,
I just saw Kip's obituary and wanted to extend my deepest condolences. It is so trying to lose one's partner in life, but do know that you gave him your presence, comfort, and commitment that had to make him feel loved. Your daily care had to be hard for you in so many ways. May God allow you a deserved rest in the months ahead.

My heart, love and sincere condolences go out to Kim, Sarah and her husband and children, and to Tyler, wife and family.
Wonderful memories of Kip when he ran the village general store, had backyard pig roasts, and when he and Kim and her mom, Pat, strolled with us, thirty years ago at the Village Movable Feasts!
He was a part of the unique fabric of Francestown, and will always be fondly remembered.
