Mary Louise Barsanti

Mary Louise Barsanti

Antrim, NH — Mary Louise Barsanti was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend. She departed this world after a period of declining health on July 19, 2021. She was born to Mae and Jeremiah Sullivan on August 1, 1926. She spent her teen and young adult years in Somerville MA, where she met the love of her life, Fernando (Nandy), who she married on September 3, 1950.

Mary was a Scots-Irish beauty who won numerous beauty contests and worked as a fashion model in her younger days. Mary raised and college educated six children, Jeffrey, Shelley, Kirk, Laurie, Brian, and David.

She resided in Antrim NH, at the Barsanti family home since January of 1959. Mary loved spending time in the kitchen and was an incredible cook. She taught all of her children the value of eating healthily, using the best, often homegrown, ingredients and the art of making delicious food from scratch. Never was there a can of store bought soup or a box of cake mix in Mary Barsanti's kitchen. She was of Scots-Irish descent, but she embraced Nandy's Italian culture and she mastered Italian cooking. Her excellence continually increased and her repertoire grew especially when she and Nandy visited his sister Margherita in Italy.

Visitors at the Barsanti home were treated to marvelous meals and fantastic baked goods. At meal times, more were seated at the dining table than the eight Barsanti's. She often invited other families on a weekend afternoon to share a meal and all the children would play together. On weekdays there often were the usual neighborhood kids or other friends at the dinner table.

Mary was an avid reader. She made a point to be aware, up to date, and well versed on what was happening in the world. Before there was such a thing, Mary was an advocate of social justice. She cared about equality in education, political and social rights and opportunities for her family and for all. Living on the hill up to the school provided numerous opportunities for Mary to willingly bandage skinned elbows or knees and break up skirmishes between kids that evidently occurred. She was always a staunch advocate for the underdog in any situation.

Mary is survived by her daughters, Shelley Barsanti Cohen (and her husband Hal) of Middlesex, VT, Laurie Barsanti Greenlees (and her husband John) of Swansea, MA; and her sons Jeffrey of Antrim, NH and David (and his life partner Dana Brownrigg) of Santa Fe, NM. She is also survived by her grandchildren who she adored, Ellia, Adam, and Maayan Cohen, Gabriel Barsanti, Justin Losier, Courtney Barsanti, and Brian Greenlees. She is predeceased by her husband Fernando and her sons Brian and Kirk.

So many wonderful memories around the Barsanti dinner table, with elegant Mary always serving delicious food and making me feel like part of their beautiful family! Mary was always so interested in our lives, in the news of the day, in her community. Many a life lesson was given. May she Rest In Peace. Condolences and love to all of the Barsanti´s.
