Mary Wigglesworth McAdoo

1921 - 2015

LEXINGTON, Mass. - Mary Wigglesworth McAdoo of Lexington, Mass. and Temple, died on Jun. 14 at her residence in Lexington, Mass. Born in Boston on Mar. 26, 1921, Mary was the beloved wife of Richard B. McAdoo; mother of Maisie McAdoo, Pamela McAdoo, and Julie McAdoo, of Temple; and grandmother of five. During WW II she worked for the US Army Intelligence Corps in Bermuda. After the war she lived in New York City and pursued studies in music. She and Richard were married in 1948. They lived in Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y. and then moved to Cambridge, Mass. in 1968. In Cambridge, Mass. Mary worked for Cambridge Hospice and chaired the board of the Kodály Musical Training Institute. She and Richard had a second home in Temple, where they spent many happy summers and weekends. They were members of the Congregational Church in Temple and especially enjoyed and supported Monadnock Music in its early years. Mary was a great lover of reading, writing, travel, children, and music; her warmth, humor, and generosity touched many lives. Her dedication to her extended family, to her husband of 67 years, and to good causes was exceptional, and she will be remembered with appreciation and much love.
