Pearl Wilder Obituary

BROOKSVILLE, Maine - Pearl E. Wilder, 93, recently of Brooksville, Maine, went into the glorious presence of the Lord Jesus Christ, that Great Shepherd of the Sheep, on Thursday July 17, 2014 after suffering congestive heart failure. Born on Apr. 6, 1921, in Canaan, Vt. to Winona and William Baldwin, she was married to Vernon C. Wilder (1913-1986) in Peterborough on Aug. 18, 1940 where she lived until 2013. She was preceded in death by her brothers Wayne and Arnold Baldwin and her sister Alice Jensen. She leaves behind, Katherine and Michael Weyler of Fairfax, Va.; Sylvia Wilder and Leigh Norwood, of Brooksville, Maine; and Joseph Baldwin and his late wife Lorraine of West Chesterfield, N.H.; as well as nieces, nephews, several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Pearl worked at New Hampshire Ball Bearing in Peterborough for more than 30 years. She donated more than 100 pints of blood to the Red Cross. She worked hard to provide for her family. As often as possible she would take flowers or baked goods to local senior citizens. After retiring from the NHBB she cared for her sick husband and, after his death, tirelessly maintained their home and property.

She enjoyed crocheting, walking, cross-stitching, gardening, and reading, especially in her later years. She is missed greatly, but those who miss her rejoice knowing she is no longer suffering.

A private memorial service for her will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers please send donations to: Hancock County Home Care and Hospice, P.O. Box 931, Bangor, Maine 04402-0931.

Her favorite, Psalm 23; The Lord is my Shepherd…

I remember Pearl and Vernon when I was a little kid. My grandfather (Bill Dolan) used to bring me when he visited them, I think it was on Sand Hill Road. They would get talking about woodworking and Pearl would entertain us kids. She was so nice to us and always knew when to rescue us from Vern's shop when it started to get boring for us. Given that the others passed so long ago I'm glad to know that Pearl enjoyed a long life. She is an important part of my memories of Peterborough, in what I at least, call the old days.

Sylvia, I was thinking of you and your mother just yesterday, remembering how she made me feel so welcome in your home. My most sincere condolences to you and the family.

Knew and worked with Pearl for 25 plus years at NHBB. She was one of the finest ladies I have known -never shared her problems but helped and cared for others always. God will love to have her in His home.

My husband, Tom, met Pearl taking one of his daily walks and sensed she and I would become friends. Tom's suggestion resulted in a cherished 14 year friendship. Pearl and I were soon visiting MacDowell Dam where she would say, “It's like church out here.” There we'd sit on a bench and she would tell me things I'll never forget. Gaining her trust was an honor. Her work ethic and stamina even at age 90 were inspirational. She'd mow her big lawn, get down on hands and knees to pull weeds. Out on her woodlot she'd gather bundles of kindling for her wood burning kitchen stove. I tried to help when she stacked firewood only to have her rearrange every piece, her way. She would come to my home when I was gardening and suggest I do it another way. Again she was right as I was soon, by habit, doing it her way. As Pearl often said, “That's the way it [was].” R.I.P. Pearl Wilder and know you did good.
