Todd Burgess Obituary

BELLEVUE, Washington – Todd Warner Burgess, 51, of Bellevue, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes on Thursday, August 3, 2017. Todd was born on January 12, 1966 in New Haven, Connecticut, the son of Cynthia P. and Donald W. Burgess. He was raised in Peterborough and graduated from ConVal High School in 1984. He then went on to get a Bachelor of Science Degree in Marketing in 1988 from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute where he was a member of the Chi Phi Fraternity.

Upon graduating, Todd honed his passion for entrepreneurship while working with the family printing business, Precisionforms, in Jaffrey, New Hampshire, Rising Sun, Maryland and Los Angeles, California, before going on to become an enduring presence in the Baltimore tech start-up scene. He later took an ownership position in American Deck in Baltimore, before eventually starting several successful e-commerce businesses in Ohio and Washington.

Todd made an instant connection upon meeting Heather K. Smith, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, through a mutual friend, and they married in 2001. They had three beautiful children, Ella (14), Raleigh (11) and Brooke (10), who they raised in Parkton (Baltimore) Maryland and Montgomery (Cincinnati), Ohio before moving to Seattle in December, 2016. Though he was often quiet, those who knew him would say Todd had the biggest heart of anyone around. He was an incredible husband, son, brother, father, uncle, and friend, who was happy to help out in a pinch or to discuss entrepreneurial ideas. Todd, our gentle giant, was an avid outdoorsman and adored hunting and fishing with his father, brothers and brother-in-law. Having been an outstanding high school and college athlete, Todd was also passionate about coaching his children's teams and cheering on the sidelines.

He had an infectious laugh and has left a giant (6'6" to be exact) hole in the lives of everyone who knew him. In addition to his wife, Heather, and children of Bellevue, Washington and his parents, Don and Cyndy Burgess, of Sharon, New Hampshire, survivors include his brothers Clinton and Hunter Burgess and their spouses of Peterborough, New Hampshire, his mother-in-law, Cynthia G Smith of Franklin, Pennsylvania and his sisters- and brothers-in-law, as well as 14 nieces and nephews in Peterborough, New Hampshire, Louisville, Kentucky, Pittsburgh and Franklin, Pennsylvania.

Todd's life will be celebrated at a later date in both Cincinnati and New Hampshire. The two things Todd cared about most were his children's health and future. The family requests that gifts be made to either help provide college educations for Todd's three children at https://www.gofundme.com/BurgessChildrenEducation or to the Cincinnati Children's Hospital to the Comprehensive Epilepsy Center, which provided critical care for one of his children at https://giving.cincinnatichildrens.org/SSLPage.aspx?pid=184.

Sending love and keeping you all in my thoughts. It was such an honor to have gotten to know Todd and see just how much love and passion he put into his family. Hold all your memories of him close and share them together often. They won't always bring complete comfort and there will still be that gap and pain for a long time to come, but they will keep him with you always.
