I will deeply miss Mr. Carter. After having him as my biology teacher then driving instructor at Leesville, I considered him as part of the family. Always witty and lively, it's a great shock to have heard of his passing. I'll never forget one of my favorite high school teachers.

I never had an opportunity to meet Richard (who is a 1st cousin, once removed); but, I did meet his mother, Laura, and father, A.J. who was great uncle on a visit in the 80's. They were wonderful people and I'm certain their off-spring reflects that too. I'm sorry for your loss and we will be thinking of your at this difficult time.

I was fortunate to work with Richard and Cheryl at Leesville High when I was band director. My first year at Leesville, I became suddenly ill and had to be hospitalized. The band students had solo/ensemble that Saturday in Lake Charles and they needed someone to take them. Richard stepped right up and gave up his Saturday to take them. That was the kind of man he was, always there, always willing to help. He was a great example to students and faculty alike.
My condolences to Cheryl and family on the loss of this fine man and tremendous educator.
