Ardith Gail Greenacre 1938 - 2025

Ardith Gail Greenacre, 87, of Beaverton, MI but had been living in West Columbia, SC, for the past 10 months passed away on September 3, 2025.

Born on February 17, 1938, Gail lived a life defined by quiet strength, independence, and an unshakable sense of determination. She faced many challenges, yet always provided for her family and built a life on her own terms.

Gail worked for 20 years at Dow Chemical, where she was respected for her reliability and strong work ethic. Outside of her career, she found joy in the natural world. Gail cared deeply for animals, often feeding and looking after the feral cats in her community, as well as the deer that wandered onto her property. She was also an avid bird watcher, meticulously recording the species she saw, when she saw them, and where-turning a simple pastime into a thoughtful record of the beauty around her.

Though she valued her solitude, Gail was a loving mother and a steady, guiding presence. She raised her two children in Coleman, MI, providing for them as a single mother through both hardship and perseverance. Her second marriage ended sadly with her husband, Devilo Greenacre, passing from cancer in 1999. Despite these trials, she built a life of resilience, discipline, and devotion to her family.

She is survived by her sister, Kay Williams of Gladstone, MI, and her daughter, Deborah Walker of West Columbia, SC and step daughter Shawn Nicholson of Houston, TX. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Tamara Boyle.

Those who knew Gail will remember her as a discerning, steadfast woman who lived life on her own terms, found peace in nature, and quietly left her mark on the world through her love of animals, her strength of character, and her enduring independence.

A private family memorial will be held at a later date.
