Dear Hoffman Family,
I just learned of the passing of Gene and i am so very sad. He was the nicest man. I have not seen him for a few years but was kept up on his health and family news by Greg & Georgia. His tribute is the wonderful wife and family he left behind. My prayers are with all of you.

I always looked forward to Gene coming in to work. He always had a smile and nice words for anyone he came in contact with. Gene will be sorely missed by all of us at Eagan Wal-Mart. Thank you for sharing him with us.

Dearest Hoffman's,
On behalf of my family, please accept our deepest sympathy and our prayers. I have fond memories of Mr. Hoffman and saw him weekly ushering at the 10:00 AM mass at Nativity with my father. He always had a smile and was very gracious and patient, even when I was causing trouble playing in the holy water.
Sincerely,
Dan, Michelle, Laura, Maggie & Patrick Murphy

Hi Mike and Cindy:
I am very sorry to hear about the passing of your father. I noticed that Gene had a career in mechanical engineering like my father, and that he was at the Little Hospice for his last days, where my mother spent her last days several years ago. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Gene and I shared the same birthday and he would call me "Birthday Buddy." Whenever I would walk in to work, he always had a big smile on. He cared for our associates. He will be missed.

Dear Hoffmans,
I want to remind you that Mr. Hoffman probably saved my life and the life of Matt Nichols. In about 1968, I took a burning bag from a burn barrel and lit a pile of leaves underneath our car in the garage. Unwitting Matt must have been about 4 or 5. Mr. Hoffman happened to drive by and saw two boys admiring a nice blaze beneath our car's gas tank. He put out the fire with several swift kicks. To this day, I can't believe how calmly he explained to us what would have happened if my brilliant experiment had proceeded.
As a kid, I always thought of Mr. Hoffman as a combination of Chuck Connor and Thomas Edison -- an unflappable western hero and an indefatigable inventor. We loved looking over his latest inventions whenever he excitedly showed them off to us. 30 years later, when I moved back to St. Paul, Mr. Hoffman gladly spent an evening helping me get in touch with some of his old colleagues as I searched for a job back here. Most impressive of all, he raised a great crop of good citizens in all you Hoffman offspring. We are celebrating his life, mourning his death, and remembering his example.
With condolences and great affection for all of you,
Darlene Keller

God gave us all an immeasurable gift, memories. Whenever you want to spend time with Gene just close your eyes and God will bring Gene to each of you in your mind's eye and memories. May you find great comfort in each of those memories. Wishing you all God's peace and love. Jim and Linda
