I met Judge Cristol in 1997 or 1998 when he came to Tel Aviv to present his findings on the Israeli attack on the USS Liberty. At the time I was an Assistant Army Attaché and we met over dinner at the Navy Attaché's residence where we debated his thesis. He was compelling, convincing, a kind, decent man. I have always been grateful to my friend for introducing Captain Cristol to me and to Captain Cristol for his publication of the truth about the tragic USS Liberty incident. May God eternally bless A. Jay Cristol, his wife and his family.

Jay officiated at the weddings of both of my sisters as well as my own. We have all agreed that the success of the marriages was due, in no small part, to the perfection of Jay's officiating.

When AJ came to live in the retirement community The Coves in Jacksonville we became friends. He shared many of his life stories with me. I was impressed by the level of his accomplishments and the breadth of his experiences, adventures, achievements, and talents. He always did so with humility. Jay, you touched so many lives in positive ways. Now you are at Peace.
I send my condolences to his family.

The judge was a neighbor of mine in an independent residential facility in Jacksonville, FL. To know Jay was to love Jay. He and I had a continuing good-natured disagreement about Oreo cookies. He LOVED them. They are far from my favorite! When he was a patient in the next-door nursing home, I would go visit and walk in holding the cookies in front of me so he would smile and welcome me in. The man was an icon as you can read in this obituary. Jay, I wish you peace, and I will miss you.
