Dr. Albert Richard "Dick" Pitcock, 79, of Friendship Village of South Hills, Upper St. Clair, formerly of Peters Township and Waynesburg, peacefully passed at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 16, 2018, with his loving family at his side.
He was born May 22, 1938, in Greene County Memorial Hospital, Waynesburg, a son of Mary Ankrom and Charles E. Pitcock.
Dr. Pitcock grew up in Dotysburg and attended East Franklin Elementary and Waynesburg High School, graduating in the Class of 1956. He lettered in baseball four years, made straight A's and never missed a day of school. He played baseball at Waynesburg College, where he later was a member of the alumni board.
He attended Morrisville Methodist Church and was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Upper St. Clair.
After graduating from high school, he was hired as a mathematics teacher and baseball coach at Woodbury Senior High School, Woodbury, N.J., in 1961, and in 1965, he was hired by Mt. Lebanon School District as a high school mathematics teacher and baseball coach.
Dr. Pitcock received his master's degree from University of Pittsburgh and his doctorate degree from West Virginia University in 1989. His career at Mt. Lebanon included being high school principal and director of personnel, and he was assistant superintendent when he retired in 1998.
His hobbies were hunting, fishing, golf and playing church league summer softball, and he even had a tryout for the Cincinnati Reds. He enjoyed vacationing with family and friends at Myrtle Beach, Hilton Head, Deep Creek, Oglebay Resort and Florida.
Dr. Pitcock was a member of Mantua Lodge 95 F&AM of Mantua, Gloucester County, N.J., and Shriners International Organization, St. Clair Royal Arch Chapter 300, Pittsburgh.
He was a devoted and faithful husband to his wife, Jo Ann, whom he married December 28, 1961, in Bethlehem Baptist Church, Ruff Creek. They just celebrated 56 wonderful years together.
Dr. Pitcock was a loving and caring father to daughters Leslie Jo Webb (Tom) and Tricia Ann Fee (David); and grandfather to four adoring grandchildren, Katherine and Charlie Aber and Claire and Kyle Fee, who always made him smile. He had a special place in his heart for his brother, Allen and wife Linda, along with niece Amy (Rick) Schroeder and nephew Scott (Diane) Pitcock.
Deceased is a sister, Clara Louise Pitcock, who passed in November 2016.
Dr. Pitcock's philosophy in life was "always treat people like you would want to be treated," and he stayed true to this belief all his life.
Friends will be received from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Behm Funeral Home, 182 West High Street, Waynesburg, PA 15370, where services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, January 20, with the Rev. Our sincere condolences to the entire family. Dick was truly a great man.I remember one year he had to move me to another school and knew I wouldn't be happy about it. Instead of sending me an e-mail, he came to my building and talked to me in person. Not many people would have done that. I appreciated his kindness and class. You always knew that you could believe anything he said.He will be greatly missed.

My condolences to the Pitcock family. Dr. Pitcock was such a kind, caring gentleman and the consummate professional. I think he knew every single employee in the District by name when he served as the Director of Personnel, and he took a personal interest in each of us. I am truly grateful for his help over the years!
Fondly,

What a wonderful man Dr. Pitcock was. He helped me very much when I was a student in the high school, and when I worked in the high school years later, he was always pleasant and nice. May he Rest In Peace. I am so very sorry for your loss.

My deepest sympathy goes out to the family on the loss of Mr. Pitcock. He was the only adult in my teen years who I actually enjoyed talking to. I spent so much time with he and Mrs. Brewer in the office when he was principal at Mt. Lebanon. At first it was due to poor choices but then became a favorite daily ritual. "Go to the office to see Mr. Pitcock." I am so stunned now to hear how many students did the same thing. As a teacher myself, I wonder how he managed to get any of his work done with so many adoring students wanting his kind attention. When we were planning our 20th High School Reunion, we discussed inviting him but didn't want him to feel obligated to do so. That speaks to how highly he was thought of by us all. He was a gift to us and I'm sure to all who were blessed to cross his path in life. Thank you for sharing this wonderful man with us all. May you be comforted in the knowledge that he made a lastly impact in so many young lives. I remain deeply grateful for his guidance in my life and will always remember him fondly. 1972 Graduate Mt. Lebanon High School,

My sympathy goes out to you Mrs. Pitcock. I worked in the office with he and Mrs. Brewer several years in high school. He sure had a way of bringing me out of my shell, I will always be grateful for that. Years later, he also helped my husband , Martin, who was a regular in his office. He got him into Parkway Tech where he found his niche. Rest In Peace Mr. Pitcock...you helped so many.

Dick was a mentor, colleague, and great friend. We shared a professional relationship which became one of deep friendship during out working years and beyond. He was the consummate professional, one I greatly admired and always looked up to. Post retirement our friendship, including wives, continued even after we moved south to North Carolina.
He will be sorely missed but remembered for the gentleman he was. Our steepest condolences to Jo and family. He is in a better place.
With much love,

Mr. Pitcock (as known in late 1960's before the Doctorate) was my Algebra teacher at Lebo. He was the only person who got me to understand Algebra somewhat. He was a fabulous teacher with a huge heart. I never forgot him. I graduated 1970. My parents now live at Friendship Village & became friends with the Pitcocks. My Dad & Mr. P shared the same curse with Parkinson's. They shared the Memory Center together for the last few months. My father is still hanging on. My mom & Mrs. P are friends.
Rest In Peace, Mr. P. Your work is done. Time for you to rest that weary body.........

Mrs. Pitcock, I wanted to send my sympathies to you and your family and tell you a story that reflected Dr. Pitcock's inate kindness. I was scheduled for an interview that conflicted with my summer family vacation in 1995. I planned to fly back for two days to make sure I attended the interview and called Dr. Pitcock to confirm before I made that reservation. I will never forget his kind voice and exact words "you only go on vacation once a year (true for me) so go, enjoy and call me when you get back and we will set up another interview!" I started in Mt. Lebanon that Fall and often repeat that story to others!

My husband,Jack, and I knew Dick while all of us were students at Waynesburg College. He was a wonderful young man then, and an outstanding human being laterr when we renewed our acquaintance many years later.when I was a teacher at Mt. Lebanon High School. He was one of the most caring individuals I had ever met in my career as a teacher.
His family has my deepest sympathy for their loss.

Dr. Pitcock was a wonderful school administrator and a very kind man. He was a great and trusting advocate for students. It was a pleasure to know him and have him as a principle during my high school years. I know my father (Dr. Norman Green) thought very highly of him during his tenure at Mt. Lebanon.

I was blessed to have Mr. Pitcock as my Principal, I graduated in 1982. He was such a kind and caring man - helpful, friendly and approachable, he was so easy to talk to and would help any way he could. I was lucky to see him again over the last few years a few times as my mother lives in Friendship Village as well, so it was nice to see him and meet his sweet wife. My thoughts and prayers for him and his family.

I graduated from Mt. Lebanon HS in 1979 and fondly remember Dr. Pitcock as my 5th. floor principle. He was a fair disciplinarian and seemed to have a very real understanding of student's needs in and outside of the classroom. He had a quick smile and sense of humor that made us fledgling teens feel comfortable. Rest In Peace.

As a friend we have so many memories of Dick. My initial thoughts travel back to our time together at Waynesburg College. Then working together in education for over thiry years. During that time our families vacationed together and created life long memories from the shores of Myrtle Beach. We shared meaningful family events celebrating the births, graduations and weddings of our children and eventually the arrival of grandchildren together. I was also fortunate to enjoy numerous opportunities hunting and fishing with Dick. He left us with so many great memories that will be forever cherished. Dick was one of a kind. He helped so many people and touched so many lives. We are honored to call him our friend. He will be truly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with Jo,Tricia, Leslie and their families. Good Bless
