Abel will be sorely missed by the Project Lead community. I want to acknowledge his contribution to making our community a better place for all of us.

Abel and I had a running joke between us: "Where are the kids???"
He and I were mistaken for husband and wife from the first time we met in 1985 at a conference for social service professionals and at several events we both attended after that time.
I am shocked and saddened to hear of Abel's passing. He was like a ray of light in this troubled world, so very committed to social service, so tremendously competent and at the same time full of humor. I will always be filled with admiration and uplifted by the thought of Abel Hewitt. I'm grateful to have known him and to have been able to count him among my friends.

I just heard about Abel's passing. He was a trainer for a program that I ran at United Way called Project LEAD. More than that, he was a friend, one of the kindest and happiest people I've ever met. My life is better because I knew him. I hope the fact that I'm just one of thousands who felt the same way brings some measure of comfort to you and your family!

I have known Abel for 26 years. He was one of the trainers for my CPS core training along with Nancy O'Neill at St. Mary's academy just south of Chehalis. Abel was my friend, my mentor, my support. He was there for me through out the past 26 years. I was so happy for him when he got married. I had always wished to meet his son. As in life, the death of Abel touches me deeply as I am sure it does so many others. Abel never knew a stranger because all were his friends. I used to love hearing his stories of his life in the military because even there he made the world his own. He truly never conformed to this world, but was transformed all his life by the renewal of his mind, even serving in the militray and in DSHS. I love you Abel and I miss you. Love to you Wendy. I know you feel blessed to have shared love with Abel. Love, Lola [email protected]

Dearest Wendy and Family,
I feel blessed to have known Abel. In the short time that I was with him, I saw in both of you a love that was pure and strong. Abel made a difference in many people's lives, and mine was one of them.
Sincerest condolences,
