In Green Valley, Arizona across the street from American Legion Post 131, there is a small sign with Adam's name and date of death. I had been driving past this sign for about five years now, since I retired here. Last week I decided to enter his information into the computer and obtained some information regarding this fine man, including photos and details of his death. That week, when I met my usual friends at the Legion for our meeting, I showed this man's handsome picture to all of my friends who were there, and we toasted this brave young man, whose loss must be heartfelt by all. Rest in Peace, Adam for a job well done and appreciated. Michael J. Worczak

To the Family of SGT Adam L Knox, As I sit here on Memorial Day 2011, my thoughts are on your fallen hero. Ever since the day I knocked on your door to bring the news of Adam's passing, you have weighed heavy on my mind. You see, I too have children and they are both serving our Nation, as well. One of mine will be in Afghanistan later this Summer and I pray for his safety everyday. Adam will forever be in my heart even though I have never met him. God Bless you and Thank You for your sacrifice. COL Homer Rogers

Dear Knox Family,

I did not have the privilege of meeting Adam in person. It is through stories of triumph and tragedy that I learn the amazing qualities that this young man possessed. His impact on the man that I love has been profound, to say the least. As hard as it is for K to relive some of those memories, I can sense the pride in his voice as he recounts the hours they spent together in Iraq. The stories I've heard have made me laugh and some have made me cry.

As the anniversary of Adam’s sacrifice approaches, I simply wanted you to know that not only is he remembered by those who knew and loved him, but he is loved and respected by those of us who, through memories of our loved ones, are coming to know a little about this hero. Adam’s story is sure to live on indefinitely.

Please know that your family is in my thoughts and prayers, as is everyone who served with Adam. I look forward to the time when we’re all reunited and I can thank him in person for being a true American Hero and a great friend to the man I love.

Warm Regards,
S

SGT. Knox,
It's been a while, but it seems almost like yesterday. When you first passed, I posted on here that I would never forget you and the times we shared. The drills and STX trainings, the stays at Camp Atterbury, and lunches at the Golden Corale.

As I've become the Unit Administrator of the 346th Psyop as of 2008, every single new soldier in-processing at the company I give them a lesson about you and make sure we take a few minutes to remember you and your sacrifice. There will never be a Soldier in this company that doesn't feel like they know you having never actually met you. You will never be forgotten my friend.

Every day I walk down those halls, as I pass your memorial and picture I look over and remember those times we've shared.

Adam, God bless you and your family!

March 2, 2010

SGT Knox, I am so sorry to have had to be the one to break the news of your sacrifice to your Mother. I t was the hardest thing that I have ever done in my entire life and it has changed me forever. Thank You for your sacrifice and may God watch over you and your Family. Unfortunately, the rules surrounding Casualty Notification prevent me from revealing my identity, but I know that you know who I am.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Adam, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

SGT Knox and I before his death

Jeff Thomsen

August 6, 2008

To all that knew Adam his death was a difficult time in our lives. He was a wonderful Soldier, taken from us too early in his life. I hope the plan that God had for him has been fulfilled. He will be missed by all that had the fortune to know and serve with him. May God bless his family and give us all the strength we need to honor his memory.

Adam- So I didn't know you all that well besides when me you and Rob would hang out and go to young life my freshman year. I attended Kent State and when attending the May 4th shooting events they had a tribute to the soilders that lost their lives. It was so sad to see all the pairs of boots and look at the different pictures of all the Ohioans that gave their life. There you were second row a pair of boots your picture and a single carnation. it was so sad and just hit me. Thank you for your service and ultimate sacrifice.

I am a PSYOPer in Company that replaced the SGT Knox's unit in Iraq. Sgt Knox gave his life in my AO. I am completing our Area Assessment and want to add a memorial page in it to Sgt Knox. This document is the culmination of a years worth of PSYOP work by 20+ soldiers and is dedicated to SGT Knox. That is how I came across this website.

I want the family to know that in the area where Sgt. Knox worked there has been a remarkable change and that his work there did make a difference.

October 14, 2007

I went to PSYOP school with Adam. Unfortunately I just learned yesterday about his death. Adam was a squared away soldier and everyone's friend in AIT. Though I mourn his loss, his memory will help me stay focused as I train and train my soldiers in preparation for our upcoming deployment. My condolences to the Knox family and friends. I will not forget him.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain, so I will not pretend that I know what to say or do that would bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON (KIA on 07/06/07) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

“Soldier”
Written to Honor the Service of Our Fallen Soldiers

Soldiers write history, we pay the price
Many miles distant, you live the life
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still

We hope and pray that all will find peace
In God, in the flag, in memories of valor
Gone now, our pride and courage you see
“An Army of One” our motto forever

Willing to risk all for love of our Brothers
We’re still Your Soldiers…and we showed the way
Our Lives too short, now pray for the others
Lived free died Heroes in lands far away

Deep within souls all cherished our Service
We’ll always have what some never know
Courage and Honor, our names forever
Lived life with purpose…just our time to go

We march in the Heavens with Honor and Glory
Missions accomplished we fought the Good Fight
Many years from now…we’ll tell the full story
Until that Day we will live in the Light

Our lives we laid down in a land far away
Still watching o’er you this night and by day
No need to talk…just know we are with you
There in your hearts and we hear what you pray

Yes we are your soldiers
Our lives we laid down
Still We guard o’er you
Still Duty bound

Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We’ll always have what some never know
Lived life with purpose…it was our time to go

I cannot begin to express my sympathy for your loss. My connection to Adam is through an odd set of coincidences. We did not know Adam but did have the chance to meet him the night before he left for Bagdad. He came to our house to see a dog that he use to have, Carmen. He was with his good friend Rob Wallace. He talked about going to war and how important it was for us to be there and he said it with such pride. He truely believed that he was doing the right thing by being in Iraq. For just the short time that my husband and l got to talk to Adam, you could tell that he was a very intelligent person and proud to in the Army. We Thanked him for serving our country and wished him well. We were proud just to have spoken with him. Our deepest sympothy to you and your family.

Debbie,
Although I read Adam's obituary on Monday, because I don't know your married name, I didn't make the connection. Tuesday night, Alan spoke with Rick Minton, who said he was going to Adam's calling hours. It was too late for us to attend, so I thought this guest book note was the next best thing. Debbie, I have known you for so many years and always loved you dearly. You lost your mom too early, you lost your husband too early and now, losing your son just seems like too much for a woman to bear. But I know God will be with you to help you get through yet another life crisis. My Tommy was a Marine, too, so that makes this even closer to my heart. I just want to give you a hug. I really wish we could have come so I could have done that. If you ever want to just talk, please call me. We are so sorry for your tremendous loss. Love to your family, Connie & Alan Willbarger

We are so proud of and thankful to all of our servicemen and women, as well as you are extremely proud of Adam. God Bless You.

May God help you to find comfort in the knowledge that Adam is a hero to ALL America.
He stood for all that is good in our young people.
My brother knows him and was proud to have served beside him.
God give you the strength to go on for Adam.

Though I have never met Sgt. Knox or his family, my thoughts and prayers are with you at this time and the days ahead. I know that it is little comfort to say that I am thankful to him for serving his country, but please know that it is true. My nephew, Matt Mattingly, also recently gave his life for our freedom. I know that your loss is shared by many. God bless.
