JAMES D. GALEN
APRIL 9, 1955 - JANUARY 18, 2023
Jim Galen, born on April 9, 1955 passed away on January 18th at the age of 67 surrounded by family. Beloved son of Anthony and Nancy Galen who predeceased Jim and loving brother to Tony (deceased), Michael (deceased) and Tim. His brother, in-laws, nieces and nephew and grand nieces and nephews and friends mourn his loss.
Jim was born and raised in the Mayfair section of Philadelphia attending St Timothy’s and La Salle College High School. He made lifelong friends who shared a common bond for the love of all major sports. Anytime, anywhere no matter what the conditions, Jim was ready play until a victor was decided. He excelled at many of them but was well known as one of the best basketball players in the area. He was mentioned in Lou Canelli’s book “ From Hunting Park to Hoops Heaven “ as being one of three players in a large class who did not have to participate in tryouts freshman year at La Salle because of his prior outstanding Tournament play. He pitched a no hitter, a 1 to 0 victory for Roosevelt in which he hit the game winning home run. There are many other tales that his friends and family will always cherish.
Jim suffered a stroke twenty years ago but fought his way back through rehabilitation with the help and support of his father and mother. Jim repaid his parents by caring for them as they aged. This allowed Dad to remain at home until he passed in 2013 and for Mom to live independently for as long as possible until she passed in 2020 at the age of 90.
No matter what the medical issue Jim was facing, he always enjoyed talking with and visiting his friends and family. He was content, easy to please and always appreciative. Thank you for being a part of our life. You will be forever missed but never forgotten.
