Gil Legg died Tuesday, June 1, 2004 at home of natural causes. He recently celebrated his 86th birthday on May 19, 2004. Gilbert Francis Legg was born at Fort Warren, Boston, MA the son of Gilbert Joseph and Eileen McKeon Legg. Gil always said "he was a Yankee by birth, but a Texan by choice." Gil starting working for The New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad Company when he was 15, cleaning lanterns. By the time he left to join the Air Force, he was a certified Railroad machinist. His love of the railroad stayed with him throughout his life. He served his country in WWII and the Korean War and retired from Randolph AFB in 1968. Gil then worked for Swearingen and Fairchild Aviation as a machinist. Gil is survived by his wife of 37 years, Josephine Hejl Legg; stepdaughter, Kathy Nichols Boyd and husband Steve of Montgomery, TX; son, Jim Legg and wife Debbie; grandsons, Jamie and Kevin of Danbury, CT; daughter, Sally Morris of West Palm Beach, FL, both of these children by his first wife. He is also survived by a sister, Dorothy Diehl of New Jersey; granddaughter, Jennifer Nichols by his stepson, Greg Nichols. He was preceded in death by his second wife, Frances Brokaw; stepsons, Ronny and Greg Nichols; sister, Mary Winkler. Gil enjoyed watching TV with his best friend, his Chihuahua D-2, where the two of them were a permanent fixture in the recliner. Gil was the proverbial "Grumpy Old Man" who will be missed by his family and friends. In honoring Gil's wishes there will be No Funeral Service. Family and friends will celebrate Gil's life on Saturday, June 5, 2004 at his home, beginning at 1:00 P.M. FUNERAL CARING USA 1550 Austin Hwy. (210) 822-4445
