He was a great guy. I knew him when we worked at the PO in downtown LA. I was a naive 19-year-old white boy. He was nine or ten years older, but we were real buddies; we had a mutual interest in jazz, and went to clubs together, and listened to records at his uncle Johnny St. Cyr's house. I lost touch with him but have thought of him fondly many times over the years and just now curiosity has led me to the internet where have learned of his death, and I am saddened.
