Mr. Christopher Philip Sewell, 40, of Ijamsville, died Thursday, Dec. 23 at INOVA Hospital in Fairfax, Va. He was the son of Philip and Ellen Nuttle Sewell of Ijamsville.

Chris' artwork, watercolors and drawings, were entered every year since 1983 in the Talbot County Fair, winning many blue ribbons. In 1985 during his graduation ceremony at Linganore High School, Chris received the Art Award to a standing ovation from his classmates. A one-man show of Chris' art was exhibited in August 2001 at Wesley Hall, Trappe.

He will be remembered as an artist who loved to capture local scenes in vivid color and detail. As a youth, Chris was involved in the Boy Scouts and he enjoyed the Scouting outdoor activities. He was a history buff, and he knew every president and vice-president. Chris was an active member at the Bethesda UMC with a special fondness for everyone in the Adult Sunday School class at Bethesda UMC and Trappe UMC.

Surviving in addition to his parents are sister Terri E. Sewell of Frederick; brother Jon B. Sewell and his wife Lori of Tuscarora; sister Cinde M. Williams and her husband Ernie of Hagerstown; brother Ryan P. Sewell of Ijamsville; Uncle John Sewell and his wife Cathy; Aunt Nancy Greenhawk and her husband Nick; Uncle Clarke Sewell; Aunt Kay Lorah and her husband Ronnie; Aunt Suzanne Skinner and her husband Donnie; nephew Matthew Granado; nieces Paige Granado and Emily, Madelynn and Gwyn Sewell, Renee and Alexis Williams.

Christopher was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Clarke and Gertrude Sewell; maternal grandparents Burdette and Emily Nuttle and Aunt Anne Foster.

Friends may call on Monday, Dec. 27 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Olin L. Molesworth P.A. Funeral Home, 26401 Ridge Road, Damascus. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 28 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bethesda United Methodist Church, 11900 Bethesda Church Road, Damascus. Interment will follow in the Church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in Christopher's name to the above named church or to the charity of one's choice.
