Al Chiara Obituary

Published by San Jose Mercury News/San Mateo County Times on Mar. 28, 2021.
Al Chiara
Aug. 4, 1945 - Feb. 23, 2021
Resident of Gilroy
Alan Wayne Chiara died peacefully in his home after enduring Parkinson's disease for many years. He was 75. Al was the only child of Alex and Marie Chiara. He is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Barbara; his children Christine Sullivan (Tim), Karen Dito, and Stacey Draper (Jeff); his stepchildren Wendy and James McEwan; and his grandchildren Elizabeth, Jon Michael, Kevin, Pete, Daniel, Luca, Matthew, and Ashley.
A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Al relocated with his family in 1972 to San Jose, California. He had a long career in sales, which ultimately led to his owning his own executive career development company in Silicon Valley. A consummate people-person, Al used his charisma and gift for connecting with people to assist his clients with resumes, networking, and career advancement.
Al loved baseball, and some of his favorite Father's Day gifts were huge baseball encyclopedias, which he would read cover to cover. He was an exceptional golfer, and was passionate about the sport as both a player and a fan. He loved spending time in Monterey, but was happiest when he was at home, surrounded by family and the many pets he loved over the years. He will be remembered for his loyalty, sharp wit, and his intense love for those closest to him.
