I was shocked and saddened to discover via Alan's blog that he had suddenly passed away, the more so because we were near in age. He was my second line manager at IBM and was always ready with a sincere, cheerful greeting. My condolences to the family.

To the family of Dr. Alan Adamson,
As Alan's colleague at IBM, Alan was dedicated, thorough and resourceful. You must be very proud of who he was and what he had accomplished. I am very sorry for your loss. May God bless you and comfort you.

I met Alan (and Louise) 34 years ago when I showed up as a postdoc at the U of Waterloo and they befriended me as a fellow runner and fellow math enthusiast. We had wonderful conversations about almost everything. Alan was one of the few people who was able to convince me that there is math worth thinking about that does not involve differential equations, and that there is running worth doing that does not involve a marathon. All the best to his family

My condolences to the Adamson family. Alan hired me into IBM many years ago and he was a good friend, golfing buddy and drinking companion (sometimes all at the same time!). I'm very saddened to hear of his loss.

Melitta:

We are so sad for you here at MLL and wish you the fortitude that you need to stay above water in this most difficult of times. I remember Alan from the couple of times you and he came to our house. He seemed full of curiosity, knowledge and optimism. You must miss him terribly.
With kindest regards,

Alan and I were friends from grade 3 on into high school. Even though I haven't seen Alan since that time, I feel the loss nevertheless. But I do look forward to meeting Alan again someday in that Celestial Realm beyond the view of our limited earthly horizon. My condolences to Rigmore (who is known better to me as "Mrs. Adamson"), occasional playmates Joe and Martin, and the rest of the family. I pray that you will find abundant solace at this time. - John Lyall (Bangalore, India)

Rigmore, Virginia, Rhondi and all.
The loss of a beloved son and brother creates such a hole. I am so sorry. My memories of Alan go back many years and in almost all of them Alan was excited about something and wanted to share it. He was a good and kind man and he will be missed.

My condolences go out to the Adamson family, Rigmore in particular. I met Alan briefly in Toronto in the late '70's at a PRO Conference hosted by Revenue Canada, Taxation. I heard Rigmore proudly talk about him in subsequent years.

As one of the former profs who had the pleasure of teaching Alan at UWaterloo, later as a personal friend and even a roommate (for a few months in Berkeley) and colleague at UWaterloo, I am very much saddened to hear that we have lost one of the truly good-natured, inspiring, warm and beautiful people on this planet.

To Melitta and to Alan's family - I feel this loss deeply. Alan was a great friend for many years. My love of the East coast of Canada and for their culture and music was something I gained while there with Alan over many years of travel. Alan was always one of those in my life who would intellectually challenge me and push me to learn more. Whether it be around politics, sports, literature or music, we always had great conversations and I always learned something new or gained a new perspective. Alan will be very missed. Les

Melitta- It has been a long time since we last met. I hope and expect that you have a lot of friends near by to give support now. I remember Alan fondly from the crazy track and therapy days. Long distance hug---Brian Farrance
