Alan Bolte Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Feb. 7 to Feb. 9, 2020.
July 22, 1944 - January 6, 2020 Alan Bolte, 75, of Santa Monica, passed away on January 6, due to complications from cancer. Alan lived his early life in Connecticut and was educated at the University of Pittsburgh. He spent his early career in advertising and publishing. He created many television and video shows primarily related to his love for vintage cars and automobile racing. An avid racer himself, he was also a prolific writer, speaker, and public address announcer for many automobile events including the Vintage Auto Racing Association for many years. He also judged many car shows and concourse events throughout the Southland. He was always willing to share his knowledge and great wit in almost all conversations on every subject from cars, boats, food, traveling and the good life in general. He is survived by his sisters Bonnie and Brenda. A celebration of Alan's life will be held at the Proud Bird Restaurant, Los Angeles, on March 28, 2020, from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Alan, dear friend, you and Martha provided me with a friendship I needed during a vulnerable time in my life. It was the Shelby GT350 (SFM5S093)that brought us together one Saturday at Riverside Raceway during a Ferrari Club event. We never looked back from there... Rest well dear friend.

Dear Bonnie and Brenda, I just was informed of the passing of Alan. Very sad news. He was a very dear friend. Came to my house every Tuesday for lunch. We edited many videos together. Again sorry..

My parents Bob and Marieanne Stone were friends with Alan and Martha in the late '60s early 70s. Alan was associated with Datamation Magazine and I recall he had a Rolls Royce and loved to pretend he was the chauffeur, with a uniform. Once Alan took my parents to the Huntington Library in San Marino, CA and followed my parents thru the art galleries, carrying my dad's jacket. Of course, others wondered who may dad was. Alan told them he was the head of Forbes Magazine (not true--my dad was a marketing exec with a software co. called Informatics). I think Alan enjoyed giving others wonderful memories. Thank you, Alan... My condolences to Alan's family and to Martha, who I recall fondly. Suzanne Stone

Alan was always a delight to meet and discuss automotive history and listen to him on the loudspeaker at various vintage auto races. He seemed to be eager to talk with everybody. I first met him at a VARA race many years ago and he always remembered my name and the car that I had. I suspect he also had many other areas of interest that could have been very interesting to listen to. His knowledge of automotive history was extensive. He could recite the names and cars of so many people. We will miss him. RIP Alan
