BOSWELL, Alan Maxfield With dignity, Alan Maxfield Boswell passed away suddenly at the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, N.S. on Sunday, August 12, 2007. He was born in Victoria, P.E.I., a son of the late Robert Keith and Adeline Ruth (MacGregor) Boswell. Alan leaves behind his loving wife, Catherine Elizabeth (MacDonald) Boswell, Ottawa; beloved father of daughters, Alanna (Dr. Michael) McDonald and grandson, Matthew B., Orlando, Fla.; Stephanie (Christopher) Larkin and daughters, Alanna, Cameron and son, Christopher, Oakville, Ont.; son, Lea (Heather Harper) and sons, Max and Billy, Ottawa. Alan adored his family and grandchildren, he spent many hours with them on the beach in P.E.I. and N.S. He is survived by sisters, Maylea Manning, Dr. Ruth Schiller; brother, Bryce (Joan) Boswell; sister-in-law, Beverly Boswell; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Jean Howatt; brothers, Edward and Dr. David; brothers-in-law, Charles Howatt, Ralph Manning and John Schiller. Alan was a graduate of McGill University (Macdonald College, B.S.), Montreal and Purdue University (M.S. Economics), Indiana. He had earlier attended Mount Allison Academy and University, Sackville, N.B. Alan had a long and distinguished career in Canadian and International Agriculture. Following retirement from Agriculture Canada, Ottawa, he was a consultant with Sparks Commodities Inc., USA. He was a spokesman at many government and industry functions in North America and abroad. Always a strong believer in trade, Alan's proudest time of his career was instigating and developing a study into the feasibility of a National Meat Export Institute which became a reality in both the beef and pork sectors in the early 1990's. A sporting activist, Alan played university hockey, coached hockey, curled, golfed and enjoyed standard bred horses. Alan enjoyed music and played the fiddle in his earlier years. Alan was a volunteer canvasser for both Cancer and Heart Associations.is favoured comment was, "O God, keep me alive as long as I live." The family will receive visitors 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in Dawson Funeral Home, Crapaud, P.E.I. Funeral service will held 2 p.m. Thursday in South Shore United Church, Tryron, P.E.I. with Rev. Karen MacLeod-Wilkie officiating. Cremation to follow. Donations may be made in his memory to the University of Ottawa Heart Institute. Online condolences may be made at www.pkmacdonald.ca .
