Alan Bruns Obituary

Published by The Oneida Daily Dispatch from Sep. 1 to Sep. 2, 2016.
TEN MILE, TENN. >> Former long-time and native Oneida County resident, Alan Neale Bruns, born Aug. 10, 1956 in Oceanside, Long Island, N.Y., passed away at home, in Ten Mile, Tenn. on June 2, 2016.
Alan graduated from Holland Patent High School in 1974 and immediately enlisted for the Vietnam conflict. Alan served as a military police officer, and a K-9 handler. After his honorable discharge, Alan worked with the Oneida County Sherriff's department and served as a National Guard recruiter. After his military career, Alan began a second career as an over the road truck driver. Recognized by awards such as Master Truck Driver Award and Trainer of the Year, Alan was especially proud of his three "Highway Angel" awards for good deeds assisting fellow motorists. Celedon's president and chief operating officer once said, "We're fortunate to have drivers like Alan Bruns." He afforded Alan the opportunity to "ring the bell" on the New York Stock Exchange in recognition of Alan's contributions to Celedon and the industry.
Alan's parents, Bill and Phyllis Bruns passed away in 2012 and 2011 respectively. Alan is survived by his wife, Nina; his children, John, Tim, Janelle and Jared; brother, Martin, and sisters, Diana and Laura; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dave, Tad and Donna, and Daniel and Elena; six grandchildren, and his constant companions, Pancho and Tally.
Alan will be remembered as a kind, gentle soul, who always made his nieces and nephews happy. Alan consistently put the needs of others before his own. Alan went out of his way to be helpful to others; he leaves a legacy of helping strangers, the homeless, and, animal rescue. A memorial service to celebrate his legacy will follow in the spring. Kyker Funeral Home of Kingston in charge of arrangements.

My dearest brother and longest friend, words cannot express the loss I feel at your passing. I hope and pray you are at peace and know how much I truly miss you. My thoughts and love are with Nina and your family. May they receive the blessings of peace and comfort during this time.

Alan was one of a kind. He always thought of others and helped anyone in need no matter who it was. I only knew Alan through facebook AND talking on the phone. We were very close friends even though we never met. R.I.P. ALAN

Always there with words and actions just when we needed them them most. Thank You for the warmth you sent when I was feeling so cold. One of the very few I felt comfortable enough to tell my whole story - Not just the happy times - Even the ones that continue to torment me in my waking hours and my deepest sleep. I am honored to have known you dear friend.
