Pastor Alan Cockrell, 83, faithful servant of the Lord from Jay, Oklahoma was called home on February 10th, 2022.
After serving four years in the US Army, Al went on to study at Tennessee Temple for ministry. With more than 50 years of ministry experience, he has led on the Executive Board for the Association of Baptists for World Evangelism, pastored three churches over the span of 40 years in Kansas City, Mo., Tampa, FL., and Buffalo, NY. In addition, he served as a senior consultant with Injoy Stewardship Services under John C. Maxwell, helping churches develop leadership and direction for their future.
He retired to the Hampstead community in 2018 where he attended Renovation Church, pouring into married couples, men, and occasionally still taking the stage to teach.
Al was married to the love of his life, Janie. He loved teaching, writing and leading people to Jesus. He was a lifelong Oklahoma Sooner fan and loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Janie of 60 years, his sons Brek, Jonathan, and Thad, six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 3:00pm on Sunday at Topsail High School where Renovation Church holds Sunday gatherings. A private graveside service will be held at Sea Lawn Memorial Park of Hampstead, NC.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the future home of Renovation Church. You can find out more by visiting www.renochurch.org/fortheone

My sincere apology to Breck, Johnathan, Thad & their families. I'm quite late coming in here. I love pastor & Janie. Not a week goes by that I don't ask Jesus to tell them hello from jer. Dad & I were close in his ministry in Tampa. 81 to 96 as I recall. Linda & I send our love ❤ & warmest regards to all of you. We are eternally indebted to his leadership. The temple heights years were our most blessed church years. God bless you folks. Would love to have a copy of mom & dad's funerals. Or speak to one of you sons.

It's hard to imagine Brother Al gone. He has been gone from KC for a very long time. The imprint he left on our lives is forever with us. Precious memories. His preaching was nourishing. His enthusiasm... his sense of humor..... the rocking chair for his 40th birthday.... I loved to hear him sing....The Lighthouse, Wonderful Peace..... His relationship to his dad, Felix, was a particular blessing to us. Dear, sweet Janie, God keep you in perfect peace. We love you still.

My friendship with Al and Janie go back to 1967 when they moved to Chattanooga to attend Tennessee Temple, and became our neighbors. That friendship has lasted all these years.
Al and Janie have been greatly used of God to encourage the Saints, and to share the Gospel with the lost. They were a perfect ministry couple.
Al left a great legacy. His family had a godly example to immulate. My prayers continue for Janie, the boys, and their families.
Al will be greatly missed.

Pastor Al was co-pastor for a few years while I attended The Chapel near Buffalo, NY. He was such a gentle, caring, beautiful soul who allowed the Lord to work and live through him. I could tell that he absolutely loved sharing what God had taught him with others. Pastor Al was truly a man after God’s own heart.
