fond memories of Al (and Sue) in the Jacuzzi, making snow angels, including me on their family ski trip.
He was very kind.

Al (Dr. Davis) was my Organic Chemistry professor at Plymouth State, and Susan (Dr. Swope) was my Analytical and Biochemistry professor. They each were were wonderful teachers, both in and and outside the classroom. Al's sense of humor made Chemistry , as well as our Science Club events, more fun.

I want to celebrate the wonderful memories I have of Al and the joy he brought to our shared adventures through the Grand Canyon and Zion National Park. Those evening gatherings for tea and cookies after our long hikes were such special moments, made all the more delightful by Al's gentle spirit and warm heart. His enthusiasm for the geology around us and his knowledge of the formations made every trek a fascinating journey of discovery.
Al had such a natural way of making everyone feel welcomed and valued. His good-hearted nature and genuine interest in sharing the wonders of the canyon made our time together truly memorable.
I'm grateful for the times we shared on the trail and will always cherish those evenings of simple pleasures and good company.
With fond memories and appreciation for Al's life.

There's no way I would have hiked for days in the Grand Canyon carrying a heavy pack on my back, if not for Al's assurances that of course I'd be fine. Definitely, I would not have crossed that raging "creek", hanging onto a slack rope, if not for Al 's mischievous smiling eyes and gentle reminder that my only other option was to retrace my steps -- a four day hike. And it's questionable whether I'd have made the climb out before sunset without him promising to treat me to a cheeseburger and fries as he passed me on the trail up. We did these hikes before cell phones but it really doesn't matter. The short videos that spontaneously play in my mind when I think of him are still fresh with affection, laughter and now, tears as well.
