Alan. My Uncle.
A guy with a great sense of humour and a cheeky twinkle in his eyes.
A guy with an enormous zest for life; who loved his jazz, and tennis, and a good discussion about politics.
Despite the miles between us we talked in emails about the state of the political scene, and spent much time chewing the cud when I started researching the history of the Freemans, and all sorts of things came up - an exciting adventure which intrigued us both.
I once sent him an official Wimbledon Tennis cap, which he said he would wear whilst watching the tennis in Florida. I hope he did!
He was my very special Uncle, and when I was a girl and we would go to Heathrow to meet Alan and Jean on one of their extended visits it was always very exciting. Jean as beautiful and gracious as ever, Alan like a film star ( I thought he was very handsome and definitely had a teenage crush!) wearing what we Brits would never wear - red trousers, or something else similar, which he somehow carried off with great style.
They seemed like such a great team.
I last spoke briefly with Alan just a few weeks before he left us. He was clearly having a rough time, and it was a privilege to have that last phone call from him.
Sending thoughts to Jean, Bruce, Matthew and everyone else, with a very special hug to Jean.
Alan, you will always be missed, and always be loved.
Shirley xx

Wishing you all, particularly Jean, all the very best.
I remember the four of us going on holiday to Sheringham. Alan and I shared a single bed end to end, in one room, and Doreen and Jean could hear us laughing, through the wall - we just couldn´t settle down!

Uncle Alan was such a lovely, colourful, and spirited man. I loved his sense of humour, and I remember having some great conversations with him about politics, film, music, and of generally putting the world to rights. I also have fond memories of him at Fowler Road (his brother Den´s home in the UK) ensconced in front of the TV to watch Wimbledon! His passion for tennis was clear. I know he also loved Chelsea FC! My condolences and love to Aunty Jean, Bruce & Matthew, and your families.
May Alan rest in eternal peace and love...

My grandad was the best of grandad´s. The type of grandad I was always excited to visit, who always brought a smile to my face and who always was the life of the party in the best of ways. I remember waking up with my sister, Kane, and running into my nana and grandad´s room to spend the morning enjoying tea and cookies with them in bed. My grandad´s jokes and nana´s warm laughter will echo through my memories for the rest of my life. I can´t think of a better representation of love or childhood. I will miss my grandad very much.

It was always a pleasure to get to see Alan and spend some time with him and Jean. Our extended family Christmases were made brighter by Alan´s smile and quick wit, and certainly sweeter by Jean´s masterful homemade desserts. I truly looked forward to seeing them at the annual gatherings and am smiling now with the memories. Alan was mischievous, a bit sly, and as I remember him with great fondness I think he was watching and observing the ruckus of the large gathering, taking it all in, not missing the nuances or details, all with a smile on his handsome face. Thank you Matthew, for the beautiful remembrance. Sending love to you all.

It is with sad hearts that we say good-bye to Alan. We will always remember him with a smile on his face and a twinkle in those beautiful, blue eyes. We can say that we never remember seeing Alan down or angry or cantankerous. To the contrary, Alan was always upbeat, funny and enthusiastic. He was truly a delight! We feel so fortunate to have known him and his lovely wife, Jean, as well as his sons, Bruce (our brother-in-law) and Matthew. We are grateful for the many Christmastimes we shared and will always remember Alan with love.

Grandad was one of my favorite people ever. When I was little, I would countdown to our visits where my brother and I would wake up early to crawl in bed with Nana and Grandad to share a tray full of tea and cookies in bed. As I got older, I loved hearing about Grandad's early years and many travels. He was great at telling stories and I loved to listen to him. He was the biggest joker and made me laugh all of the time. He was also a lover of games and I will think of him every time I play Rummikub or betting whist.
I was lucky enough to introduce my daughter to him in April. Seeing him with his great granddaughter was so very special. I'm going to miss him a lot and I'll cherish the tons of sweet memories I have of him forever.

I feel so very lucky to have had Alan as my father-in-law as well as Grandad to my children. He was a wonderful man in so many ways, full of vim and vigor as he faced life-all it´s adventures and challenges, head on. He will be dearly missed by his family, and all who knew him. My heart goes out to my mother-in-law Jean, Alan´s soul mate and best friend. They complimented each other perfectly and were an inspiration to all of us. In loving memory, Rest In Peace dear Alan.
