GROVES, Alan Clugston
1939 – 2013
It is with great sadness we announce that Alan Clugston Groves MD passed away on November 28 after a long struggle with Parkinson's Disease. Alan was born in Vancouver and spent most of his life in the city he thought was the most beautiful in the world. He studied medicine at UBC and trained as a surgeon at Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal where he also obtained a Master of Science in Experimental Surgery at McGill University. He returned to Vancouver in 1970 to embark on a rich and rewarding career at Shaughnessy Hospital. He was respected by his peers, attentive to his patients and committed to research that led to many papers published in medical journals. A strong and decent man, Alan believed in the importance of family and always sought to do his best for those he loved. He is survived by his wife Pat, his sons John (Suzanne) and Stuart (Christie), his stepdaughters Julie (Craig) and Leslie (Martin), his brother John (Else), his sister Carol and his loving grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 4 at Shaughnessy Heights United Church at 1550 West 33rd Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the BC Parkinson Society.
