Alan Roger Guzman

Al Guzman was a passionate and phenomenal musician. Growing up in San Jose, Al was a pillar in the music community. Attending Abraham Lincoln High School, class of 1972, he became the hot shot of the music department, and was an inspiration to his fellow classmates. He was well versed and self taught in the genres of afro-cuban music and latin percussion, among many other styles of music.

After high school, Al joined the San Francisco Mime Troupe as a musician and ensemble actor, where he had the opportunity of touring all over the United States, as well as England and Germany. After leaving the SF Mime Troupe, Al went on to pursue other musical endeavors, including groups like "Musica Es Cultura", and eventually starting his own band called "The Al Guzman Combo". He also taught music at Berkley Elementary for a time, as well as many summer music programs across the Bay Area.

Al was not only a well rounded and diverse musician, but he was also a good friend and a loving father. When Al walked into a room, the mood automatically brightened up. He had the most hearty and contagious laugh, and a heart of gold. No matter how hard things got in his life, Al always managed to keep a smile on his face. He was an optimist, and he always saw the glass half full.

He is survived by his son Anthony, who is also a lifelong musician like his father. Al was always a great father, and made sure that his son wanted for nothing, and always encouraged Anthony to follow his dreams. Al is also survived by his brother Arthur, and his nephews Adam and Michael, as well as his great-nieces and great-nephews. Al Guzman will be missed by all. He had a plentiful amount of friends, who's hearts were all touched by Al's good nature and fantastic musical abilities.

His funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 8th, 2025 at the Westminster Presbyterian Church of San Jose at 2pm. The address is 1100 Shasta Ave, San Jose, CA 95126. All who knew him are welcome to attend.
