Alan Logue Obituary

Published by Saskatoon StarPhoenix from Feb. 16 to Feb. 18, 2012.
Alan Vincent Hadley Logue Alan left this life, that he loved so much, on February 10th, 2012. He spent 22 fun and active years with his mom and dad, his big extended family by blood and marriage, and his big extended family by way of the friendships he forged wherever he went. He had just completed his second year of engineering at the U of S, in May last year, and was one week into a great summer job at the Candle Lake golf course, when a severe headache led him to hospital, and a diagnosis of Leukemia (AML) on the May long weekend. From that point, he embarked on a series of treatments and hospitalizations that he faced with courage and optimism. He was supported by his family and friends and his care teams in Saskatoon BMT, and Seattle SCCA, in a way that was inspiring to see, and of incredible help to him. He passed away in Seattle, surrounded by family. For all of his life Alan loved everything physical and athletic. Whether soccer, ball, skiing, rugby, mountain bike racing, golfing, or hockey, he loved it all, and excelled. He overcame injuries and adversities along the way, and found a way to pursue these passions at many levels, all the while accumulating a diverse and interesting group of friends, who have rallied around him and been fiercely loyal. When it was time to turn to more serious pursuits, he tackled Engineering with the same determination and good humour that marked all he did. He was well on his way to successfully completing his degree, with two years achieved towards a specialty in Geological Engineering. If any one thing defined Alan, it was his love of people. He was an engaging and enthusiastic conversationalist, loved to laugh and make those around him laugh with him. He had no brothers or sisters, but he enjoyed a closeness with his cousins that could not be distinguished from that of brother or sister. Though the cousins span 20 years and more in age difference, they spent countless birthdays, christmases, weddings, anniversaries, fish frys, parties, and family gatherings together. On his illness, they closed ranks and formed a loving, protective network that ensured he was never lacking company, contact, empathy and encouragement. Many plans were hatched for trips and adventures after he was well. Many will unfold as planned, out of the honor and respect for Alan's memory and the genuine intent of the planning. We will celebrate Alan's life with family and friends at a gathering in the spring. We will advise of time, place, and date as matters are settled. Thanks to all who have provided messages of encouragement and support these many months, and of condolence these recent days. Many could not be acknowledged, but all were, and are, treasured. You were our beacon and light. We will treasure our too few years together. You made us so proud. Love, Mom and Dad

Alan and Connie - we can't begin to tell you how in such a short period of time that Little Al worked with us, at what a wonderful impression he made. Everyone at the Candle Lake Golf Course loved working with him - always cheerful and full of life. His ability to do many different jobs was greatly appreciated. I know he talked about coming back when he was better. We will always remember him.

Dear Mr and Mrs Logue,

Although I did not know your son Alan myself, it almost felt like I did since Jessie often spoke of him in Ottawa and always kept her cousin so close to her heart. I would like to express my heartfelt condolences to you and your family and know that we are talking about his stories, and life legacy - he was a special one. I'm so sorry for your terrible loss, and the loss of such a young life, yet lived so well.

In sympathy,

There aren't words to express our sorrow at the loss of Alan. Our prayers have been, and continue to be with you. Alan was a dear friend and room mate of our Grandson Steven Robinson while they played hockey at Notre Dame. He was often at our house with Steven. My favourite Alan story is the Costco story -- where he and Steven convinced teammates that we owned Costco. Our boys shared so many fun times and laughter. We remember Alan for his sense of humour and kindness. Alan will be missed by everyone he touched. He was a wonderful young man, with equally wonderful parents. Please know that we share in your sorrow.

Dear Mr and Mrs Logue,
My deepest condolence to you and Allan's extended family. As I read your words I felt I knew how inspiring your son was and the family that he had. We didn't know your son personally here in Ottawa but though his ever admiring cousin Jessica we came to know how amazing he was and our wish here, is that whole that was left in her heart be filled with his spirit of strength and love as for all his family.
