I will always remember Alan on the coach to Hengrave Hall in the summer of 1983 before he started Ranelagh. He was an infectious personality who brought a smile to all our faces He attended St Michael´s Church Easthampstead. I will remember him with fondness. RI Alan

I have only just heard about Alan. I was in his year (though not his class) at Ranelagh School, and I remember him as one of the most popular, good-natured students, full of life and cheer. I am very sorry to hear of his passing, and will always remember him. My condolences to his family.

Will always miss his dry wit and repartee and his "breaking" of our SIA trainer.

Always very chatty and knowlegable, I only Alan knew in the last few years of his life, but such was his character that from the first meeting you insstantly felt "at home" and that you had been and indeed would be a friend all his life.

He was always there when needed, was not afraid to go in where others might have feared to tread and had a heart of gold (sadly fragile), but somehow managed always to put a ray of sunshine into everybody's life who knew him and worked with him.

The world seems a little darker without Alan and would like to add my condolences to Mie and all of his family.

Rest in Peace, Glory Hole!!

Alan was always someone you could rely on both as a team member (Tango) and to bring a friendly smile.

I hope is family and close friends can take some comfort from the richly deserved tributes.

He was a caring and kind man who would always bring a smile to our face. We worked with him at beer festivals and they will not be the same without him. Our condolences go to all his family and friends. He will always be in our hearts.

I enjoyed working the CAMRA stewarding team (Team Tango) with Alan. I knew I could rely on him if I needed back up.

He lived his life with panache and style, somehow managing to fit 28
hours of living in almost every 24 hour day
His unending enthusiasm, determination and passion for life were an
inspiration and he left a smile in every life he touched

We have only know Alan for the past 3 years. He always had a very pleasant smile on his face and was keen to talk of his work with Camra.

It is with sadness we learnt of Alans death, the world has lost a fine young man, but he has left a lot of people with many happy memories.

Our thoughts and sympathy are with Sue, Denis, Richard, Lynda and family.

How saddened I was by the news of Alan's death! My heartfelt condolences go to Sue, Denis and Richard at this very sad time. I remember Alan so well from his early years at South Hill Park Playgroup - a very, very bright and witty little boy who was a joy to work with....his little brother, Richard, also. I recall the concerns you had for his health even then - but was wrongly under the impression that his heart problems had been resolved and no longer presented any particular threat. I am so,so sorry. My twins, Sarah and Nick Palmer, and who were at Ranelagh with him, join with me in expressing their sadness at this news and ask me to pay their sincere respects.
With our sincerest good wishes to the whole family.
Jean Leslie (formerly Palmer), & Sarah and Nicholas Palmer.

I have just heard the news about Alan and wanted to send a message of condolence and best wishes – albeit so late.

Alan was just such a wonderful man, we chatted about ale as, in addition to our professional work roles, we were both interested in the licence trade (from Beer festivals to my pub ownership).

Before Christmas, Alan and I kept in touch via email and shared thoughts on a quiet Christmas and meeting up in the New Year, with his first task of the year being office locations we bumped into each other at Merchants House a few times.

Despite only being a new friend of Alan’s, you’d have never of known it. We chatted as if we went back a long way, and had a chuckle together about silly little things.

I have asked a few times (obviously the wrong people) about whether Fifth Dimension was interested in being neighbours in Merchants House, but never heard the news, until now.

I can imagine that there are so many people who knew Alan and that each of us are feeling a little empty without Alan’s presence.

I do hope you didn’t mind my writing, but my thoughts are with Alan's family and friends at this sad time.

Regards

Nicola
