He was always a kind and gentle man. One of the best optometrists I have ever known. Whenever I was in office for an appointment I felt I was in the best of hands. He is sorely missed, but I’m sure he is happy to be missing the 2020 pandemic!

I've know Al since his days working with Dr Osborne. My last appointment a month ago lasted a couple hours as we talked about his family and mine and just hung out. He was the best, and I will miss him.

My condolences to Joe and family. I moved to New Jersey 15 years ago and have not seen an eye doctor here yet. Would see Al on my yearly trip to Reno, he was such a great doc. Would always sneak me in. He will be missed.

I was Al's patient for 19 years. My husband and I considered him a friend as well as my doctor. We were out of town and were shocked to read the article today in the Reno Gazette-Journal by Katie Coombs. What a loss to our entire community. Al was special and will be missed. Our prayers go out to his family.

What made it obvious to me that Dr. Dufur was an enthusiastic practitioner and a generous soul was that he dedicated nearly ten extra minutes in the examination room to responding to my fervid queries about canine eye physiology as we mulled over the diagnosis of the animal eye specialist, where the challenge was to keep low the intraocular pressure of Stevie the blind Boxerthen a ward of the Nevada Humane Societylest the dog have to have his eyeballs removed to avoid the growing pain. Dr. Dufur wasted no time sharing his knowledge, even sketching a diagram to enhance the info-transfer. With the help of Canine Rehabilitation Center & Sanctuary Stevie was rehomed; he still has his eyes. I wish we still had wonderful Albert Dufur among us.

I am new to Reno and had only one appointment with Dr. Dufur, but I liked and trusted him immediately. He reminded me so much of my last employer, also an optometrist, that I knew he would be an excellent choice for my new optometrist. I am very saddened by his passing. My thought and prayers go out to his family.

Just read about Dr. Dufur's passing in the paper today. When I moved here 5 years ago I became a patient of his. He was a lovely man and gentleman..a word not applied to many folk these days. My heart goes out to his mother, sons, partner and to all of his extended patient family. He will be greatly missed.

Oh my gosh! I was just told of Dr. Dufur's passing. My thoughts go out to his family and friends. He was the first eye doctor I ever saw referred to me by a friend. As a 50 year old, he explained to me how my eye sight worked and how it declines as we get older. Besides his explaining to me all about my eyes, he was so personable. It never failed that we talked about our Harley Davidson motorcycles. He was an awesome guy, who was taken way too soon! R.I.P.

We were patients of Dr Dufur and just today learned of his passing. What a great loss for all of us, but what a great gain for those in. Heaven because he has gone home. Our hearts go out to his family, especially Kerry and those 4 boys and we will pray for all of his family and Al. We will all miss him dearly.

Doc will be missed. Not only was he mine and Jessie's doc, he was a friend! He gave me his cell when I had an eye infection... How many doctors would do that? He would always ask about Tom and Mackay. He always supported, donated and encouraged Mackay's rodeo endeavors. Dr. Dufur was special and we are grateful to have been a part of his life.

We are part of the Dr. Osborne patients who continued our eye care with Dr. Dufur for the past 20+ years. He has been the most thorough, caring optometrist. In times of mourning, we remember the great times that the Dufur family has had, throughout their lives, we have learned through Tracy, Al, Jacob and Matt, that the love of family is what bring happiness. Because of your love of your family--and the strength of that love, you will always be cared and loved for. Romans 12:10

I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of Dr. Dufur. He was such a kind-hearted man, a great mentor, and excellent doctor. Dr. Dufur welcomed me into his office a few years ago for a shadowing experience as I explored career options in medicine. He was so helpful and encouraging. I saw the compassion that he had for each of his patients, and his genuine interest in their lives. Most notably, I remember how fondly he spoke of his sons. I am praying for comfort, strength, and peace for them and the whole family.
December 10, 2015
My heart is hurting so much for Al and his new found love with Kerry. He was a great person inside and out. His boys were his life and he was a great kind hearted person always. We have been friends/patience since Bob and Darlene Osborne days... Rest in peace and tell them Hi for me. To the Vision Source family, you can get through this and Al will be proud of each of you. Al, thank you for everything you have done for me and my family. Darcie, Don, Kelcie, & Kylie Thomas---Reno, NV

To Albert's family,
I remember Albert from high school, going to the same parties and hanging out. I married his best friends brother, Todd. We have seen each fairly regularly for the last 30 years. AL was the truly the nicest man I have ever met. He helped my family through an extremely difficult time when our then 11 year old son had a bullet fragment ricochet into his eye. He was immediately on the phone putting us through to a wonderful eye surgeon and then retina specialist. He was so thoughtful and helped us tremendously through such a scary time. I will forever be grateful for his wisdom, kindness and friendship. Albert (I could never call him Al) was loved by so many and will truly be missed. God Bless you all.

My heart goes out to Tracy, Jacob and Mattie for this incredible loss. Tracy and Al were together for 30 years and had such a wonderful, loving and happy marriage for so many years producing two amazing boys. This life journey can be so unpredictable bringing uncertainty and changes around every corner. Through the endearing strength of Al and Tracy's love bond although challenged with obstacles at times - they mutually focused on the well being and happiness of their sons. Unfortunately with Al's passing the boys will no longer have their Father present but they will hold fast to those precious memories when they were all a loving family. Blessed Be.

I first met Al when he started dating my cousin Tracy Rocha. He was a handsome football player and she was a beautiful cheerleader at Merced College. I had the honor to be a bridesmaid in your wedding June 15,1991. I have such fond memories from all the times you guys welcomed us to stay in that beautiful home you built together, we always felt so at home! My oldest son Scottie loved you so much one of his first words was Dapert (Albert)you were so good to him! I always knew when Jacob and Matthew were born they would have the most loving parents! It's saddens me to think of Tracy raising the boys without You, but I know they'll all be ok because of the strong foundation you all built together when they were young. This summer when I was visiting with Jacob I asked how you were and he BEAMED with pride as he talked about you then of course Matthew was so excited to tell me all about his football coach :-) aka Dad! You are very loved and you will be dearly missed. I thank the Lord for His promise in Matthew 5:4
Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
I will continue to pray for your sons Jacob and Matthew to be comforted until they see you again!
Love your cousin,

My thoughts and prayers are with the whole Dufur family. Although God called Dr. Dufur home too soon, he has made an indelible impact in so many of us who were fortunate enough to have known him. To Albertos family:
For each thorn, there's a rosebud...
For each twilight a dawn...
For each trial the strength to carry on,
For each storm cloud a rainbow...
For each shadow the sun...
When you speak of Alberto, speak not with tears, for thoughts of him should not be sad. Let memories of the times you shared give you comfort, because his life was rich and blessed!
