Albert Hosman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 16, 2025.
Albert Leo "Al" Hosman, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2025, in Stony Brook, New York, at the age of 88. Born on December 22, 1936, in Peabody, Massachusetts, he was the fourth of five children to the late William "Pepper" Hosman and the late Beatrice (Leahy) Hosman. His arrival just days before Christmas was a cherished holiday gift to his family, his mother fondly called him "Bert"

Al spent most of his life in Peabody and nearby Salem, Massachusetts. He built a long and steady career at Sylvania GTE in Salem. In later years, Al lived with Kelly in Maine before spending the last two decades with Christine in New York.

Family was always central to Al's life. He was the beloved husband of Marie (Catalina) Hosman until her passing in 1973. Together they raised three children: Albert "Lee" Hosman (Lauren) of New Hampshire; Christine "Tina" Sammon (Brian) of New York; and Kelly Hosman of Massachusetts.

He was grandfather to six grandchildren: Jenifer (Hosman) Peaster (Nathan), Albert "Al" Hosman (Liz), Justin Poretta (Jess), Robert "Robbie" Lord, Molly Sammon (Steven), and Patrick Sammon. His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren: Maegan, Natalie, Nolan, Zachary, Jennah, and Jianna.

He is also survived by his brother Thomas "Tom" Hosman of Massachusetts; sisters-in-law Elizabeth "Betty" Hosman and Clare Hosman of Massachusetts; Doreen (Catalina) Muller and her husband Robert "Bob" Muller of New York; Regina "Gina" (Catalina) Matia of Florida; as well as many nieces and nephews including Jimbo, Billy, Mikey, Franny, Timmy, John, Jill, Cristen, Lauren, Jackie, Nicole, and Joey.

In addition to his wife Marie, and his parents William and Beatrice, Al was also predeceased by his brothers William "Pinky" Hosman, James "Jim" Hosman, Frances "Hoss" Hosman; sister-in-law Katherine "Kay" Hosman; brother-in-law Ronald "Ronnie" Catalina; nephew Stephen "Stevie" Hosman: and parents in-law Albert and Adele Catalina

Though a man of few words, Al's warmth radiated through quiet acts of love and support. Whether sharing stories over a cup of tea (rum and coke) or simply offering a reassuring smile from across the room, he had a unique way of making others feel seen and valued. In the warmer months, Al could often be found tending to his lawn-a task he approached with great care. His biweekly trips to Home Depot for yet another hose nozzle became something of a humous tradition. Who knew there were so many ways to water a lawn?

A devoted fan of New England sports teams-especially the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots-Al rarely missed a game. Watching his teams play brought him great joy throughout the years.

A big source of comfort for Al was his beloved cats. It began with "Rocky," followed by "Rocky 2," then followed by- you guessed it, "Rocky 3." His final feline companion, lovingly referred to as "the princess," will continue to be cared for by his daughter Christine-Her name is "Roxie" -a living piece of his heart that remains behind.

Albert Leo Hosman will be laid to rest at St. Mary's Cemetery in Salem, Massachusetts. While no formal funeral service will be held, his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. May his memory bring peace to those who loved him.

Al and I hade great talks on the telephone from N. Y. to Salem. He was always talking about and missing Salem in the Good Old days. He was a great guy, will miss our talks but we will meet again some day and continue with everything. Love to Al.
