Albert Howland

Albert Howland 90 of Old Town, Fl passed away at home July 1st 2025 on hospice after a brief illness. He was the son of Melbourne Howland and Eunice (Barrows) from Ashland Massachusetts. Albert was preceded by his 7 brothers: Thomas, Curtis, Arthur, George, Raymond, Robert and Roy. 4 sisters: Ruth, Edith, Eva and Lilian. Al was also preceded by his two sons Jerry Howland of Exter New Hampshire, Alan Howland of Beals Island, Me and grandson Rick Alan Beal of Beals Island, Me.

He is survived by his wife Patricia Howland of Old Town, Fl, daughter Pauline Backus (Bob Day) of Cape Coral, Fl, Sons Walter Howland (Arlene) of Beals Island, Me, Jeffrey Howland of Marlboro Mass, and daughter Julie Howland and fiancé Matthew Fahey of Cherryfield, Me. Grandchildren Michael Backus of Swansea Mass, Matt Backus of Gardner Mass, Krystal Tenney (Rob) of Orland, Me, Brandon Howland (Lexi) of Ellsworth, Me, Joshua Bassett of Addison, Me. Great grandchildren Benjamine, William and Patrick Backus, Brittanya Tenney, Indica and Isla Howland, and Beau Bassett.

Albert was a tree surgeon for 40+ years and had his private and commercial pilots' licenses with an instrument rating for single engine planes, although he mostly flew recreationally. Along with his wife Patty they played music together for 65 years and were well known throughout New England and Canada. In 1972 participating in a yearlong battle, they won Best Band of New England. Their sons Alan and Walter joined the band in Calais, Maine where they played at the Stable Inn's "By Golly" Lounge and the backup band for the TV show "Dick Stacey's Country Jamboree" for 10 years. The Downeast Country Music Association awarded them best Country Family Band in 1981. Over the years the fronted many known artists including Dick Curless, Red Sovine, Stone Wall Jackson, Connie Smith, Charlie Walker and The Platters. The last couple of years they could be seen playing at VFW in Old Town Fl and the Amvets post 42 in Fanny Springs, Fl.

He will be greatly missed by his family friends and many fellow musician friends he made through the years.
