Albert V. Lindquist

Albert V. Lindquist, 94, of Gloucester passed away Thursday evening, September 9, 2016. He was being cared for in Seacoast Nursing and Rehabilitation. He was the husband of the late Ruth L. (Josephson) Lindquist with whom he shared 48 years of marriage. Al was born October 25, 1921 in Gloucester, son of the late Albert V. and Eva C. (Middleton) Lindquist. He grew up in Pittsfield, MA and was a graduate of Pittsfield High School Class of 1940. He joined the Navy on his 21st birthday. He was a WW II United States Navy veteran. He resided in Gloucester, MA, Georgetown, MA, and Barrington, RI, before returning to Gloucester, MA in 1970. As an employee of New England Electric Company beginning in 1950, he worked in Newburyport, Lynn and Haverhill. He served as the Assistant Superintendent of Narragansett Electric in Providence, RI and as Superintendent of Salem Harbor Power Plant in Salem, MA. Early retirement in 1982 meant spending winters in Key Largo and St. Petersburg, Florida. Albert was a long time member of the Charles C. Dame Lodge A.F. & A.M.in Georgetown, MA and of the Tyrian –Asher-Acacia Lodge A.F. & A.M in Gloucester. Brother Albert Lindquist received his 70 year pin in 2012. Al is survived by his daughters, Ann L. Baylies and her husband Benjamin of Gloucester and Lois R. Tyler and her husband Edward of Hanson, MA, three grandchildren Sara Jusseaume and her wife Tina Childs of Berkeley, CA, Rebecca Baylies and her husband Thomas Mansfield of Gloucester, and E. Patrick Tyler of Hanson, MA. He was the great grandfather to Lucas Childs and Gemma Jusseaume of Berkeley, CA, and his newest great grandson Everett Mansfield of Gloucester. He will be missed by his canine companion, Hazel. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews He was predeceased by his sisters Claire Chaffee, Phyllis McKenna and Cora Zopf as well as his son, Sherman Ruth. Albert's Memorial Service will be held in the Pike-Newhall Funeral Home, 61 Middle St. Gloucester on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at 2:00 PM. There will be a visitation prior to the service beginning at 12:00 noon. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Interment in Beechbrook Cemetery will be private.
