Albert J. McAdoo

Mr Al was a patient of mine almost 20 years ago. We connected over sharing a birthday and finding out we were both from farms towns a few towns away from each other in Massachusetts. I worked with him from admission to his discharge home to return living independently, just as he liked it. I found out I was expecting my first child just before he left the rehab facility . A few months later I was put on bed rest. Mr Al would stop over on his way home from volunteering at Veterans Memorial Park or after his bridge games. He would keep me company joking how the tables had turned and telling me his war stories. He always brought something in hand, whether it was fresh produce from a farm stand, a box of chocolates, a canned ham. My kids grew up knowing him as Uncle Al. He would pop over for lunch, play monopoly with my son, when no one else would, sit through my daughter´s dance performances and have my husband take him for drives when that got a little mote difficult. I added 2 pictures, one of my family with Al 11 years ago on Korean Armistice Day at Veterans Memorial Park where they honored him as a volunteer and a more recent one on our birthdays. Rest well Mr Al.

Al was my neighbor in Tampa for three years. I started doing his yard work on the same days I did mine, as he was just a few houses down. One weekend, he thought I should´ve been by at my "regular time," yet I was in my backyard with headphones on and didn´t hear Al ring the doorbell. I am in the military, so Al called the military base where I work to report concern that he couldn´t locate me. Cops came to my house to check on me! Al was such a sweet man and friend. He came to spend the 4th of July at my house. He gave me copies of his books. He looked out for me. Though my name is Gideon, he called me "Grace". I just moved back to Tampa and looked forward to seeing him again to catch up. I hate to have missed seeing him one more time.

Al was my neighbor for five years and a friend long after we moved. Al lived life on his own terms. He never complained. I have so many memories: Our first New Year's Eve, we were outside at midnight watching the kids set off fireworks and Al walked out. I expected him to tell us to stop because we probably woke him up. Nope, he just waved and had a seat and enjoyed the fun. He definitely wasn't the typical elderly neighbor. I remember many Thanksgivings and birthdays we celebrated with him. He often had computer issues so he became close with my youngest son who would always help him out. They became quite close, and my son was so impressed with him that his high school honored him in a special ceremony for his service to our country. Years later when I was visiting him in the assisted living center, I saw the old post-it note on his computer with my son's cell number. It just made me smile. I remember our Friday date nights the last several months I was in Tampa and his special $2 bill tips. I still have two from him that he gave me after having dinner at my house. He was such a riot. I remember Al joining our family to see the moving "The Gray" and his commentary throughout the movie! I remember taking him to get his eyelid surgeries. I remember going with him to Taste of Boston so he could get his fat belly clams. I have so many more memories. He was sharp as a tack and up for anything. He was kind and generous and full of life. Our whole family will miss him. Rest in peace my dear friend.

Mr Albert was a wonderful story teller and a great conversation. He was fiercely independent and enjoyed keeping up on military current events.
Mr Albert was a staunch advocate of Korean War Veterans and especially for veterans of the 5th Regimental Combat Team.
He was a treasure on Mascotte Street and we all enjoyed his company.
Al wanted me to be promoted as much or more than family and I wish he would have seen it. I know he will be with me.

Mr Al was an amazing story teller, a quick study of military current events, and a wonderful inspiration to current service members.
It was an honor and a pleasure to talk with him and share war stories. He was a staunch advocate for Korean War Veterans and especially the 5th Regimental Combat Team.
Al wanted me to be promoted more than I did. I wish he could have seen it, but I know he will be with me.
