ALBERT ANDREW
On Tuesday, July 23, 2002, after a courageous battle with cancer for 13 years, Albert passed away peacefully at home. He was the youngest of ten children, son of the late Mary and Andrew Onda; brother of the late John, Michael, Andrew, Joseph, Ann Caldwell, Frank, George, Stephen and Mary Bella; beloved & devoted hardworking husband of Juliana Toma, married 53 1/2 years; dear father of Juliana & Albert (Denise); proud Uppa of Jessica, Andrew, Angela & Jennifer; brother-in-law of Margaret Onda of Edinboro, Helen Onda of Baldwin & Germaine Toma; also several nieces and nephews. Lifelong friend of John Dzurikanin & Michael Goda. Albert was one of the first Lectors of St. Joachim Church. It is there he received all the Sacraments of the Church. He was a Veteran of WW II & served in the Army Air Corps; was a tailgunner with the 394th Bomber Group; & also received a Purple Heart. His life was centered around the Knights of Columbus, Mother of Perpetual Help Council 3981. He served as Grand Knight twice & held every office in the Council. A member of Council 4210 Honorary Life Member of the 4th Degree at Ft. Pitt Assembly 0192. Chairman of the Board District Deputies of Western PA. Worked at J&L for 30 years, was Facility Manager of Warner Cable. At the time of his death, he was the Vice President of Local 141, Laundry and Dry Cleaners Union. Friends received in the EDWARD P. KANAI FUNERAL HOME, 500 Greenfield Ave. Funeral on Fri. 9:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joachim Church at 10 a.m. Visitation with family 2-8 p.m. Wed. and Thurs.

Dear Mrs. Onda:
I am an attorney who had the privelege to know, and work with Al on behalf of Local 141. Al was one of a kind; loyal, respectful, trustworthy, and respected by all. We spent many hours together and it was an honor to have known him. I shall always have fond memories of Al and always recall his steadfast interest in working for the betterment of his fellow human beings.

It was certainly a delight to known Al Onda these many years. He is of course my sister-in-laws father-in law. I always enjoyed the time we spend toghter at the family gatherings. I can not recall exactly what we talked about, but the conversations were alwayus enjoyable. I especially remembeer play pool with him at the Scott Township house. He was very active in the K of C while I was active in the Masons. We would talk about these organizations. He would tell me about work. He had a strong sense of family and loved his wife, children, and grand children, as well as his many other relatives. He was very proud of them. In later life he preferred to stay at home and not attend the gatherings at his son's house. I was alway disappointed when he was not there. He was always a delight to be with. I was very happy to see him at Denise and Albert's this past Xmas. I will surly miss him.
